I have never been to red bud so i have no idea. The way people make it seem that it’s such a big jump, does a 250 smoker have enough oomf to get over it? just curious

Here’s a 125 making it. And it’s a shell of its old self.

It depends on how they have the turn before it set up.

The way they had it during the national it took all of what a built 250F has to clear it.

If the turn at the bottom of the hill is just a 180 and you have the full run at it you could hit it on pretty much anything.

He definitely seat bounced...he need the suspension to spring him over the jump as it rebounded. Smile

I thought he jumped it to prove seat bouncing didn’t offer a benefit.

I've seen many years where the turn was a 180 and hardly any 250f's hit it. To me this year more hit it than usual on a 250.

Yeah I remember a year where Baggett was the only guy to hit it. There were 4 or 5 this year

To answer your question... Yes, any well tuned modern 250T should make it coming through the last corner with decent speed and decent prep. I hit it on a 04 RM250 wide open, 4th gear sitting on the seat in 2014... Raced a AHRMA vintage race there last year and no way my stock 86KX250 had the power to clear it but my 85KX125 had no problem doubling it ?

I live 30 minuets from the track and have grown up riding and racing there for the last 20 years, and have seen many local guys hit it at open rides and races. As many above mentioned, the corner at the bottom has the most to do with getting a good run at the takeoff....ace the corner before the takeoff, click up, hold on, enter launch mode.

and they changed the corner before the leap i think its been 2 years now. before it was one long left hand sweeper off the back of the tabletop. now its a tighter, shorter right hand, almost chicane corner.

My '01 CR500 had no problems singling the leap with my level of riding commitment.

Back in the early 90's I watched Jeff Ward park his bike at the corner before it and watch a few guys doubling up it and checking lines. No one was hitting it because it rained in the morning and 125 practice came out and Guy Cooper sent it on his out lap. WFO and there were no efffs given. Once he cleared it on the 125 all the top 250 guys started hitting it.

I'll never forget watching Wardy at the berm with his forearms resting on the crossbar because I was in the same position the week before trying to figure out if I could double up the jump. We were both contemplating the same thing, he was just contemplating hitting it a gear higher than me. hahaha

I remember when Pastrana did it in practice on a 125 and blew out his front wheel.

From what I recall from doing open rides there, the berm was pushed way up so there was no way to get enough of a run to triple it.

I went there the first time for MXDN. Intimidating.  No scrubbing or extra speed to give up AND clear it. Just give it everything and aim for orbit. Big penalty for missing it in addition to hitting the third jump.

All depends if they C block it or not like they did at vet fest with 89,000 gallons of water in the corner before it. Lol.

The pic of stew hitting it, jump was easy and had much less consequence. I hit it during that period of time and overshot, came up short, and threw no footed can cans over it on a bone stock 02crf450 lol.. (pic below) Once they added 50 loads of sand before it, it became more difficult. The next year I did it 1 lap on a mod CRF and came up short enough to wash my hands of it. I only even tried it because of a bet that year. Mike Katin said I had to if he did on his rm250.. He did, and wadded. My next practice first lap I held up my end. I didn't wreck but I bent wheels lol..

The way it is now is totally different. This year I was very close to pulling the trigger during race day practice. First lap it hit me the corner was good enough. Second and third laps my front tire hit a dozer rut at the entry of the corner and unsettled me enough I couldn't stay wide open in the corner to get to the top of third. Once Motos came it was back to bumpy rut fest from the prior days water. If you come up short now, it's the bounce that'll ruin your day. Probably 30' down to the actual bottom then starts to come back up in elevation to the corner, so you'll be augering in..

To answer your question, yes a 2 stroke 250 with the right guy on it can do it if that guy has the sack to not let off.. as seen by the dude at mxon..
