Lake Mead levels has me wondering if there's any imminent danger to track watering in the west.

We are on heavy water rationing in SoCal and there are more strict phases ahead. It started in North LA County and it's headed south into OC and North SD counties soon. Landscaping will be dying for a lot of people considering you aren't allowed to water enough to keep some of it alive. It's a bummer Mead and Powell are draining so quickly.

No doubt it is and things only seem to be getting worse as far as unusual climate. Feel for you guys and I think a part reason quite a few maybe leaving LA. We are predicted another wet summer and this winter has been like Britain already but I'll take that over the repeated 45* degree C days (113F) and catastrophic bush fires, destruction, death and sustained smoke haze and ash fall we had a few years back any week of the century.

Any Vegas locals noticing good deals on Boats popping up?

I wouldn’t mind a new stand up jet ski. Maybe I should make a trip down and pick up a trailer load of shit on the cheap. Who woulda thunk the middle of the biggest desert on the continent wouldn’t be a good place to own a boat?

The water from Lake Mead is used to supply the largest state in the US which is extremely over populated. You can do research to figure where the population is coming from. When you put an extremely large amount of people in one place they will generate a lot of problems. The governor is trash and does not care about anyone except the massive businesses in Silicon Valley. He caters to them. Soon he will run for president.

Gonna be interesting for sure. Track watering isn't just for having a nice experience for the riders, its also a requirement to control dust and keep it from becoming airborne. Its a catch 22, you are required by law to keep the dust down, but you can't use water due to restrictions. Not looking good imo.

I watched a show about the Colorado River a while back . When they handed out water rights to the different industries / farming , they did it based off 500 year flood numbers . I believe the eastern ?Colorado farmers got the lions share of it . Im in Vegas this weekend. Lake Mead has been getting lower for 20 years. Its down 150 feet . The Hoover Dam is operating at 30% and if the water level gets much lower the dam will shut down because it will be below the intakes . Someone here said the Kardasians used 330,000 gallons over their monthly limit last month and got fined $150 .

I hate to sound selfish, but I am more worried about having water to drink, then some dust inconveniencing dirt bike riders. I guess I am selfish. 🤷‍♀️🤣

Over 70% of the earth's surface is water and desalination of sea water is literally a commodity now (I work in the water processing industry). Any reason to not do it is nothing more than an excuse. Viable solutions exist, its just not politically profitable.

Arizona tracks get water from wells on site (+at least over 95% of it anyway). They may truck in water from the canal on occasional race days, but normal practice days come from wells.

They have options, like using the out of date hand sanitizer sitting on pallets and filling up warehouses all over the west. They, literally, can't give the stuff away.

Vegas gets very limited water from lake mead and it almost all goes downstream to CA, AZ, and Mexico. A lot of what we do use mostly gets pumped back into the reservoir after treatment. Additionally, the “heat wave” and extra rain/humidity this year was caused from the volcanic eruption off the coast of Tonga last year.
