I have a 2021 450 with a Ti-6 pipe and an SR that has the green decal pipe which was not mentioned anywhere as being any different. After riding both my bikes back to back yesterday I noticed the SR having a deeper sound to it and noticed it seems to have no insert in it and has no threading to install one. Will removing the insert in my normal pipe make them the same or is there other internal differences? Also had noticed on my normal pipe the bolt for the insert had backed half way out. Trying to make my bikes as similar as possible

Always take the insert out for racing

Took the insert out but after looking at it more the diameter of the opening is smaller on the SR pipe so the SR does have a unique silencer to it which wasn’t mentioned in any of the release info. Can see in the pictures the difference in amount of carbon around the opening. I imagine it’s made to match the mapping and porting?

I took the insert out on my 19 with Ti6 and hated it. It was CRAZY loud, and lost a bunch of bottom. I put it back in and was happy again.

I think some of the sound difference and power difference is the cylinder mods they did cleaning up the cylinder on the SR edition

Well did it sound similar with the insert out?

It sounds closer but different, not sure what the SR pipe is since it has no spark arrester but is a smaller diameter. I’ll have to ride it Sunday to really compare

I’d guess it’s the ti6 pro system on it. They don’t come with a spark arrestor and have a slightly smaller outlet

Looks like a Ti-6 Pro. The photo of yours is identical to my Ti-6 Pro.

I’ve been thinking that, just weird they wouldn’t put pro on the label like they typically do. It’s not listed as a pro anywhere in the bike release but it looks like that’s what it is. Wouldn’t expect it to be a deeper sound and louder than the non pro but I guess so

As said above it could also be from the porting done to the head

Yeah what Watson said. Kawi did some cleaning on the head and ports. More than likely it’s just a combination of the Ti6 pro and the head work.

Switch the exhaust out and see what it sounds like on the other bike.

Mapping is part of it.
True. Mapping has a big effect on how the bike sounds. Burn and exhaust temperatures change the speed of sound of the exhaust gas and therefore its tone.
I played around with the mapping tool on my YZs and noticed a much deeper sound when I switched to the richer sand setting.
