Ktm sx-e 5 question

Edited Date/Time 10/2/2020 2:09pm
Anyone that's purchased one willing to share what they paid? I feel like this potential purchase could give me some serious buyers remorse.

Simply too expensive. I'm going to try the Beta one and upgrade parts if needed. $1700.

How does that compare in price to the 50SX or TC50? What are you guys paying for those in the U.S

Price I have seen in Aus for the new E-5 is $8390 plus the cost of the charger, another $800, so looking at over $9000.

At that price it is hard to justify for a kid who is in his final year on a 50, if he was just turning four and we were about to get 4-5 years out of it, I could nearly justify it, after buying 1 mini 50 and 2 x 50SX in the past 4 years.

I'm going to have to find a new dealer. My local wants $6250 otd for the one they have in the showroom.

I didnt know about the Beta. Do they offer lowering options?
I need the mini size seat height since my little guy is only 3. He is ok on the oset 12.5 for a little bit longer but he really likes his 50sx mini but he cant ride that one at home.

I dont get dealerships. I wish you could just get these things shipped to your door in the crate.

The Beta is only 36volts and not competitive with a gas 50. If you're not ready to spend the money on the KTHUSKY I'd recommend a used PW50. Resale value on the Beta is probably not good.

Also the number of electric KTMs and Huskies are very limited. Expect to pay retail. Sounds like your local dealer has some high bs add on fees.

It is Robs but in their defense i missed the call and just listened to the voicemail. I haven't had a chance to discuss it further with them. I want to add one to my stable but not at over 6k.

How do they sell the bike without the charger? That makes no sense.

They sold KTM's with Air-forks but no Air-fork pump for years here, you simply had to purchase one on top of the cost of buying the bike.

The first two 50s I purchased did not come with an air-fork included, the 2019 I purchased a few months ago did.

Same with Yamaha and their original power tuner (Before it was an App), here you go, buy a bike that you can tune via a hand held power tuner, but first you will have to buy the Power tuner separately.

You can currently do this with Suzuki (For some reason it is not mentioned on a single review of the 2020 Suzuki RM-Z250 on any American site!) Suzuki now offers a Wifi power tuner, the current offer Suzuki Australia has with 2020 RM-Z250s is you get that included in the purchase.

Really it is like buying a toy that requires batteries, but not getting the batteries included.

I bought my kid the beta for Christmas. He races a tc50, but wanted something he could play with in the yard. I just couldn’t justify spending $5k on a bike to play in the yard with, and a race 50 is to fast for the little yard track I have. The beta certainly isn’t
competitive with the ktm, but it was 1/3 the price and comes with a spare battery.

Ours came with the charger and fork air pump at the $5434 otd price. The dealer also agreed to sell us a spare battery at his cost when we decide to buy one.

Cheers,

Just trying to work out the difference in price from Aus to the U.S

The $8390 price here in Aus sounds rather pricey, especially if what I have been told about buying the charger separate is true.

I got my 19 50SX for a very good price from a local dealer, it was a run-out and there are plenty of 2020s around and I only paid $300 more than Wisconsenracer24 paid in the U.S

Considering the exchange rate the price I got seems very very good!

The difference between the U.S price and Aus price for the KTM E5, looks to be around $2200 - $2800 going by the couple of prices in this topic, even with the difference in exchange rate, that is a big difference.

I think the concept and the bike is awesome, I have seen one in action, may or may have not had a quick ride Smile , They are a great thing, and if my son was 4 years old it is the path we would be taking, but for us with only 6 months left in the 50 class, $8,300 is a little to much to try and squeeze out of the bank lol.

Certainly keen to follow the progress of the bike and looking forward to hearing how they go for the guys who have purchased one who post here.

What kind of real run times are you getting, how fast is your kid, and at what setting? I read runtimes from 25min to 1hour and trying to figure out if one of these will work for us.

I would think it would be real tough with running more than 1 class. Our last race my boy was moto 4 and 7 no time in between.

Idk, we only rode at a track once so far. It wasn’t long, guessing like max 15 minutes and my kid is not the fastest.

Will be good enough for a moto though, then go charge it

thats only about $1k more than tc/sx50's commonly otd for. $4200-4400 is pretty common for our area (NC). with leftover/past year bikes for 3500-3800.

it wont take long for that to be made up in lack of wear parts (as well as all the common mods. clutch/chain/sprocket/exhaust/engine mods/etc).

that of course will only last until there is aftermarket availability for the elec bikes...

Maybe i'm misunderstanding your statement, but 15 minutes and a dead battery with a kid who's not that fast. Ouch. That is terrible, my lil man puts about 2-3 hrs on his pw when we spend a day at the track. He goes back and forth from the main track to the kids track all day.

Ya, that’s correct.

It’s all good though. We still are racing pw’s, then have a husky tc50. Only reason we bought it is for LL’s next year. This isn’t a bike that you would want as a only bike.

My plan is on practice days, a moto on the electric and put it on the charger, then a moto on the tc50. Then back and forth etc

I agree on having more than one bike if you can afford it for the same reasons. We'll be keeping the lowered KX65. Even after buying an Alta I still won't sell my big gas bikes.
