Better than “outfit” which sounds girly or limp wrist’d. Prefer “gear”.

I don't have any facts to back this, but its a carry over from cycling. Cycling gear has always been refereed to as a "kit", and "kit" started being used in moto when cycling and mountain biking started becoming a bigger and bigger training tool. So I think it just got carried over.

I believe the military men called their gear "kit".

I think it started a long time ago.

I thought I might be the only one wondering the same thing...but I am old school. Remember when my son said "Dad, those new jeans are tight!". I looked down and said "No they're not, they are loose fit".

Here is the look I would get if I asked all my vintage buddies: "Hey, what do you think of my new kit"?

Since this was put up in moto, I assume we are talking about kit being used to describe its usage in that area.

My 71 Mach 3 came with a killer tool kit.

Talking suspension, an A kit is better than a B kit.

Then there's RM, with their dirt to street, ah, kit.

You thought 1776 was the last you'd seen of us.

Before long you'll even be spelling colour properly.

Every time I hear a dude talk about their "kit", I think they must be talking about their
make up and accessory bag they take with them to ballet class.
And that's cool and all . . . whatever you are into, man. I ain't judging. LaughingLaughing

Nothing wrong with calling it ‘riding kit’. That’s how it’s been for decades in Britain.

What I don’t get is the more recent practice of calling it ‘A kit’. No, you are not buying *a* new riding kit, you’re buying *some* new riding kit.

I mean, what happens if you’re just buying pants and not the whole set? *A* kit makes no sense. Unless you’re unloading several grand for suspension that won’t make you any faster that is...

Don’t like ‘quali’ either. It’s ‘qualifying’.

It’s like motocross has been infiltrated by newbies who didn’t know the correct terms. And then, over time, the newbies have overrun the place and the correct terms, practices, techniques and etiquette have been lost forever.

Oh, and get off my lawn...
