Holy Crap- I had them once. One of the worst experiences of my life. Having your skin erupt in painful blisters is agonizing. There is no way getting around being miserable until it's over.

Immune system is down along with stress= bingo. Had them 16 years ago wore out and stressed, next thing I knew I was full of spots. Waited too long till I went to the doctor so I just had to go without any medication.

And people gave him shit for saying that he'd rather wait a little longer with the return to racing...

I had shingles in my mid 20s . Had these lesions on my torso so I went to the doctor and he said it was shingles . Apparently it's a remanefestation of the chicken pox virus. Anyway he said I could treat it or let it run it's course and since I had no other symptoms I chose the latter. I guess a combination of my age and maybe a milder case ? Not sure but for me I wouldn't have known anything was wrong except for the lesions.

At this point I wish he could take the summer off. Relax, recharge, hit training again in October. His body is fighting him hard at this point and it's not something you can just push through.

It’s like mono (EBV, Epstein Barr) in that way. The younger you are when you have a flare-up, it’s magnitudes less severe and less likely to recur. I got EBV at 36 and it was the most miserable time of my life.

My Mother went through a spell fighting those damn things. At the time, she was in her early 60's, and said it was the most horrible pain she had ever been through. Her words, "child birth was easier than this...."

Shingles are awful..had them on my back and torso as a kid...very painful
Then got opthalmic shingles a few years ago where it comes out through your eye and onto your face...was onto it very quick and got the anti viral medicine..opthalmic shingles can send you blind if you dont catch it early

Poor guy. I've always been a Roczen fan and this is why. He's still riding! The guy is determined, for sure.

Kenny is an animal. Obviously he has the speed still just no stamina. I agree that he should take the summer off. The heat of the outdoors will wreck him.

My mother in law 71 had it last year, and now has manifested into vasculitis, she is almost chair bound and her organs are not doing great.

It's been a terrible 9 months, so far...

Poor Kenny. His mind might still want it, but his body just can’t keep up anymore. He’s been making piles of cash for many years now. Probably time to call it a career.

Man this sucks. The sport is so much better when a guy with his talent, speed plus awesome charisma is at 100%. Really hoping he can get this all figured out and back to his true self again. Wishing the best for you Kenny.

Shingles are BAD. Had them, around 1/2 of my lower back and torso. The worst pain I have ever had. Got some anti viral meds just before the window closed (72 hrs) but took me a good 6 weeks to get through it. The dr also gave me a script for 100 T3s, and I'm like 100?? I didn't take them for 2 days trying to be a tough guy and figured the constipation was much easier to deal with than the pain I had, so back on the T3s I went. Shingles typically appears when your immune system is down or you are under severe stress. Funny story to that-went to the dr and he looked at the rash and in 2 seconds says, you have shingles. I'm like WTF, I'm only 44 (at the time). Anyway, he says to me, have you been under any stress lately...I'm like, funny you should ask....my wife and I split up two days prior to the diagnosis but the split had been building for a bit.....Could not imagine racing with Shingles that is for damn sure. Good luck Kenny!

Same here but had normal immune system. Just wore out and stressed. I think he has some kind of autoimmune disease.

Is there any chance his breathing difficulties could be related to his shingles diagnosis?
