Pretty interesting article about how much each manufacturer pays for contingency. Reading this kind of makes me wonder why more guys don't ride a Kawasaki with that they're paying.

So according to Kawasaki, an 11th in a 450 main is worth the same as the last guy into the night show in the 250 class. Who comes up with this shit?

Obiously this is different for factoy riders I take it? There's no way Ken is just getting 15k if he clicks off a win.

Certain pros used to buy one brand that may have been inferior and race another for the contingency money paid by the former brand. For example, buy a bultaco, race a KTM, get the big bultaco contingency.

All at the local level of course..

yes, Factory riders get a salary plus bonuses for winning....not sure how much more than contingency but probably a fair amount more I would guess

Factory riders have bonuses written in their contracts. They don't receive contingency from the manufacturer's. Salary and bonuses.

Ken more than likely receives 85k-100k for a win not counting bonuses from Fox, Red Bull, etc.

I didn't read it that way. Looks like $500 to make the night show and another $500 if you finish 11th-22nd for a total of $1,000.

I know there is someone now at the ama headquarters that got caught trying to pass off a honda with all white plastic as a Yamaha back in the 90's.

I thought this was for the every man? Who really cares what Pros make for contingency? I would care what I could realistically pull from my local races though......

I used to go race the TORCS series, open A and sport A and could make 350 in each class for a win on Kawi. It's literally the only reason I got a Kawi (or a 4 stroke).

Seems to me like it would almost make more sense as a manufacturer to not have a factory team and put all of that money into contingency.

Back around 2012 it was much the same with Kawi. Most if not all bikes that guys bought were Kawi due to the contingency... Granted the bikes were only good for a season but they were so fast it was pretty much worth it...
