So I was just listening to Keefers latest podcast
Which is about which used bikes he reccomends
And some bikes he has liked in the past etc
I enjoy listening
But I'm questioning
Some things
Like he said he recommends
A 2012 crf 250r
In the podcast he says because they changed
From from a 50 mil to 46 throttle body from 11 to 12
And also says
That the 12 would have been the last year before they went to
Air forks..
In looking around on the ole internet
It looks like they changed the throttle body
From 50 to 46 from the 12 to the 13 model year
And also the 13 and 14 both still had spring forks
So do u suppose he means the 13 is the better one to buy??
Also I would have though with all his years of experience
And all the bikes he has ridden that he would have
A few more suggestions .
I very much enjoy listening though
And he seems like a great guy .

One of my Vital forum buddies told me about your post so I came in to answer your questions. First off, thanks for listening, I appreciate it. The used bike podcast was a way to suggest to others about some bikes that I have tested and liked. I am sure there are others that I liked as well, but these bikes (on the podcast) are the ones that stick out and I remembered most about. In 2012 Honda went to a 46mm throttle body and that made the power more exciting, which I liked.

Now to answer your question about the 2013 CRF250R.. I got hurt in 2013 and missed out on some quality testing with the 2013 CRF250R model so I am sure it has some of the same parts rolled over from the 2012. I just wanted to mention the bikes that I have had the most experience with and tried not to steer the listeners in the wrong direction. I think I talked about the 2012 Honda CR450R in the podcast and mentioned it was the last year Honda had a spring fork before they switched to air forks in 2013 on the 450R. I apologize if it came across as the 250R.

I appreciate you taking the time to write and if you have any questions please email me at kris@keeferinctesting.com. My door is always cracked open to try and answer as many questions as I can. Thanks!

In Kris' open forum on here a few months back he mentioned liking the 09-12 generation CRF450Rs compared to the 13-16s as well, to which I agree. I had a 2009 that I loved so I bought a 2014 and, it was ok but I never liked it as much as the previous gen, didn't ever feel as comfortable on it.

The only real noticeable difference between the 12 and 13 crf250 was the changed fork springs (.46 in 2013 I believe) and maybe a fork piston change. The stock connecting rod bearings on the 2010-2017 crf250 cranks aren't the greatest and I personally have gone through 3 of them within 30 hours of new.

08 and 09 were best Honda’s in my opinion. Even tho they were totally different. 10, 11 and 12 were OK. Didn’t like any of em after that.

Meh, I had a 2012 CRF250R brand new back in the day. It was decent at best. Chassis always felt super sketchy at speed.

I never rode a 2008. I was kind of anti 450 at that point, I was wayyy faster on a 250F. I had been riding a YZ250 and was tired of getting gassed after 2 or 3 laps. I went riding and fried my clutch so a buddy let me ride his 2009 CRF450R and I fell in love...the motor was super tame and usable. I then bought a 2009 off a good friend and after about a year the valves started ticking so I sold her for 3k and bought a brand new 2014. Never loved that 2014 as much as the 2009 though. I now ride a 2017 KTM 350.

Yup , same here. Loved my 09, then bought a 12, wasn’t as thrilled with it because it was slower , even after a remap and exhaust, and didn’t handle the same. Rode a 13 and said no way, bought a zook, but now I have a 2018 fc450.
