I know most hate the look of that bike but I love the butterscotch orange with red and silver highlights. Any time a KTM has silver in it, I'm in. (McGrath).

Sweet machine that was revolutionary for our sport.

Talked to Lance a few times over this exact topic. Been a few years , but man what a cool dude.

Side note : around the latter part of the 90's I headed up to Woodland MX for a race. Followed this little beat to crap brown toyota pickup that was seriously worth more sitting in a scrap bin. Dude was hauling a big KTM 620cc ( I think that's what it was that day )....anyways , sporting a big #1 on the plates. Me and my buddy started laughing , thinking " who is this goon?".......Come to find out it was Lance , and he completely destroyed all the pro classes that day.

Moral of the story....don't ever judge a book by it's cover haha.

I remember when he almost made it that year in Kingdome. The crowd was going nuts and it was so freaking loud. That bike just echoed inside the dome. It was terribly obnoxious. I remember my dad saying "can you imagine if everyone out there was on one?" I said no way....that's never going to happen." 10 years later it did (unfortunately)

Big fan/friend of Lance, and he's completely legit in the record book for this...but this was when they took 30 riders to the main in Daytona. It was the first main...but I'd argue that his LA and Seattle rides were better.

Yamaha was the first 4 stroke to win an SX but not the first to qualify.

Kind of a sad thing to hear , but Don Schnieder , the guy who started up the western 4 stroke nationals , passed away this past summer. I had no idea the guy was in such a terrible place when it happened. But I guess he was broke , homeless and basically starved to death on a bench in the park down in West Linn Oregon. Don , you could say was THE driving force behind getting this whole 4 stroke thing going. He truly was a pioneer. It really bums me out to think about it because he died only a few miles from me , homeless. He was friends with a lot of my friends and to see him go out like that , with everything he did for this sport....just freaking heart breaking. The next time you go out and fire up your 4 stroke , you should thank Don for bring those bikes back to life , and bringing therm into the professional ranks.

Didn't Mickey Diamond have a ride on a 4 stroke Husky back around 85? I'm just going by memory but didn't he race a big 4 stroke before dropping down to 125 on the Honda for the championship(s).

He rode Husky 2 strokes. 250 SX/500 outdoors in 84 and 250 in both series in 85.
