Is there any difference between a 2016 125SX shock compared to a 2017 or 2018 other than the color of the anodizing? My 2016 shock body is smoked and a buddy has one off of his 2018 that he would let me get for cheap. I was planning on buying just the body and swapping everything from my current shock over.

Called Kreft and was told their shock body (for 2017+) would not work on my 2016 shock which I thought was the same from 2016-2019. Might have to do some more research.

Did you ask why it won't work? I'm nearly certain they're the same. Can you just get the one from your buddy and compare the two?

Kreft said there was a slight difference with the clevis, which I did confirm are different part numbers but I believe that is because the 16 came Ano'd in black where the 17 and up were the grey color. My friend is about 3 hours north of me but I'll see if he can get me some measurements.

Here is Kreft's response on Instagram. I was told the 2016 models retained the older shock, but now their Instagram person is telling me the 16 SX-Fs got the new (current) shock were the SX got the old style shock. This is true for the 250SX, but after comparing part numbers between a 16 125Sx and 16 250SX-F the upper body and clevis/shaft retain the same part numbers, along with the 16 SX-F and SX shock looking identical. I also emailed Brad at factory connection and was told the shocks are the same from 16-18. Based off my research along with other reputable people confirming I believe the 16 shock should be the same as the 17-18

He is wrong. The 250 wasn't updated until 2017 but your 125 was updated in 2016 with the four strokes. The shock body should work

That’s what I thought as well. Looks like all internals are the same from 16-current so I highly doubted the shock was that different. Thanks for confirming.

If I could tag on here…would a 2016 150sx shock work for a 2020 125sx? They seem to have different partners but I guess I would just have to measure.

It should. In 2016 only the 125/150 was updated. The 250sx was the old chassis for 2016 and wasn’t updated till 2017 and likely the confusion Kreft created with his post.
