If the Euro keeps tanking as fast as the US dollar, it'll be OK for KTM. It's all relative.

All I had to change on mine was the rider. Put my kid on my 200 and it got a lot faster.

That's usually the most effective upgrade you can make on your bike. Put a better rider on it.

The KTM has a lot different feel compared to Jap bikes. I believe it is diffcult for a rider to switch from Jap to the Euro brand. The amatuer riders that KTM has locked in now for long contracts will do well in the pro ranks in the next few years.

I bought a KTM 50SX for the boy. That bike is the biggest piece of shit ever created. Why they would make a bike for a kid that is so maintenance intensive is beyond me. The kid loves the god damn thing, so I am stuck working on the orange piece of shit. I have used every word in the book to describe that bike while working on it. I hate KTMS!!!!!!!

KTM 50's are fast bikes but they are a non-stop headache.

The new series of mini's from KTM's are completley different for 09. KTM didnt actaully make the engines for the 50's before this.... they do now.

They cost too much. I got a klx110, I am going to try and get the boy to switch to that bike. It sucks because he really likes the orange turd. If I can't get him to give it up I am going to have to quit riding to keep his bike running. I have actually hoped that KTM would go out of business as punishment for making such a shitty bike. I HATE that thing!!!!!!!

Why anyone would buy a kid an expensive RACING motorcycle {and then whine about the maintenance} when a four stroke yard bike would clearly fit the need is beyond me. Don't worry though, big brother will soon make these hard decisions for you.

Up until now I replaced the cluch washers with springs from a Mini Adventure. He tried racing it like that and got smoked off the line and coming out of corners. I need t try and find a washer stack that will work for him. Any suggestions?

No suggestions better than your idea of getting him on a 110 or a KX65.
I went through the same thing with my son and a Cobra. He would be running up front and then with a lap or two to go it would start acting up.
Frankly the whole 50cc racing scene is a joke and should be abandoned on humanitarian grounds.
Bought my son a used Kx 65 and then later got a 110 which he loved and road into the ground. I sold both of the to Kawis for just a couple of hundred less than I had paid for them 2 years latter.

.650 and I agree the KTM 50 is a huge steaming pile of shit.

You must have a pro junior? Carb is the biggest problem with those, I have one too- done nothing but work on it from the day I bought it. Getting ready to put a 19mm from a pro senior on mine, they say that helps a bunch

Use two2cool. Astonishingly enough, the stuff does work well at reducing temps. The springs last longer (use stainless ones, btw), so there's less maintenance. A Tomar disk clutch is a huge improvement over the 3 shoe clutch in terms of maintenance, but there's the initial cost of the clutch. KTMtalk's mini section is really helpful, btw.

As soon as possible, move him to a 65. The 2000/2001 KX65 is about an inch and a half lower than the 02+ ones. With a cut-down seat and the preload backed way off, they're slightly lower than a Pro Sr, but they do weigh a bit more than the 50's.
