Hey guys, was looking at possibly trying to get my hands on a 2020.5 FE. Just seeing if anyone on here has had a factory edition before and your thoughts on the whole factory edition idea. If its worth getting? Or am I just better off waiting until the 2021's come out? Because from what I can work out, any new tech on the FE's ends up on the next years model?

Thanks!

I had a 2016.5. Impulse buy. In retrospect I should’ve waited and just bought a 17. The added $ verses what you actually get really isn’t worth it IMO. Unless you absolutely have to have a factory looking bike I guess?

We bought an 18.5 and if I had to do over with again I would. If you plan on doing the stuff that it comes with you mine as well buy it.. You can't buy the parts and have them installed for less than the difference in the price new. Plus you have a bike that is a limited in production and has the ever so cool Red Bull graphics lol!!

If you are someone that rides a mostly stock bike and do not the bling I would buy the regular bike....

I believe the FE/Rockstar editions are worth the extra $1100 or whatever if you would do similar upgrades to the 2021. Slip On, Aftermarket Seat, Billet Clutch Cover, Holeshot device, Triple Clamps, things start to add up quickly if you price out what you would do to a 2021.

If you had no intentions or no need/want/desire for those things you might be better off waiting for the 21, or getting a 20.

Yeah all the parts definitely add up quick! My last 3 bikes have been Yamahas and at the minimum I’ve thrown on an exhaust system, graphics and had the suspension worked on plus a few other little bits and pieces

And if I’m honest with myself I would do the same if I got a regular 20 or 21 haha. So I’ve pretty much answered my own question, I must of just been looking for some justification to spend the extra money straight up LaughingLaughing

I think a lot of it also depends on where they are in the production cycle. If they are coming out with a lot of changes in the next year, then the FE will probably get you those changes. For example I have the 17.5 FE, and it got me the better 18 fork design and the bigger battery and a few other little things. It really does depend on the model year so just do good research.

Would guess most buyers don't NEED a Factory Edition, they WANT one, which is perfectly OK.
If it makes you happy, then it's worth it.

The 2021 is likely to be the same technically as the 2020, maybe with some updated suspension settings. 21 won’t have the factory triple clamps, billet hubs, akrapovic exhaust etc.. that the FE’s come with. so If you want that right off the rip it may be worth it

Can we stop with the whole .5 thing yet?
Can someone tell me if this is the last year for the factory editions or is it next year? Racking my brains as I am sure someone (perhaps it was ML) who said they are going to be discontinued....I might of heard/read wrong of course! Smile

Thanks for your input everyone Smile

Really leaning towards the FE at the moment, will be calling nearby dealers today and trying my luck to get one!

All these posts and no picture of an FE? How can we determine if this bike's worth getting without a picture?

It will be interesting to see if that 2021 new honda 450 is more powerful and weighs less than the ktm

The Honda is already quite a bit more powerful. And I am not sure that matters at all. Even the dyno loser (RMZ450) seems to make more than enough power for top pros (which most of us are not).

Maybe not, but if the honda is lighter while running spring forks, that's insane, especially given how heavy the honda 250f is
The power would be the icing on the cake. Major bragging rights after vital publishes the dyno lol. You could always get a klx110 engine fitted if it's too much Tongue

Man, If I could find a bike with a KLX110 engine and CRF450 level-of-quality (not necessarily size) suspension, chassis, and brakes, I'd buy that thing right away provided it was less than $6k, especially if it was around the physical size of a CRF150/230F

For a wife/buddy/big kid bike, or just to rip around the track pinned with reckless abandon, UGGH... that would be perfect

Cool bike stand. Does the front tire make it lift as you roll on?

If I had the cash burning a hole in my pocket I would absolutely buy one of those bad boys. Hey in five years will it have mattered that you bought it? It will not. Get the dang thing and enjoy riding/looking/polishing it.

Smash a deal on a standard model, send the frame to powdercoat, be patient and scour for deals on parts from people on here.

It's quite reasonable if you're trying to build a bike, imo.

Depends what you want in a bike.

Property tuned suspension and a few sets of Hoosier mx25s will get you a lot more fun than the price of extra anodized parts and graphics. Also the fe450 is very good looking I want one bad.

I'd clear out a spot in my living room for that bike. My vote is yes, it's worth the extra cost.
