It will be back to normal (Taledega)... Not going to run up the back of Shoei. That didn't pan well.

KTM used up their one time works bike exemption for Lance Smail several years ago. They bent the rules to have the 250 SXF legal for the factory team when it first came out. Based on past history the AMA will probably let them get away with it again if the production units never arrive.
Talked to MA800 (online) he says the 350 will hit floors around April.
However, I think he meant 2011
That allows the one year rule which I think is legit... Not certain, so don't quote me.

I'm a fan of it and think it will be an advantage. Lighter and better handling = Smile

I guess it's easy to assume that it will be lighter, but I remember a few years ago when the factories were having to add weight to the skid plates to make them pass the minimum weight requirements. That was back in the 2-stroke days, but I never heard of any changes being made to the minimum weight for the 4-strokes vs. the 2-strokes.

So my question is, if the minimum is still out there, how close are the current 4-strokes to that minimum weight? And if they are already at the minimum or close to it due to exotic parts, then even if the 350 could be lighter it will have to comply with the minimum weight.

I don't know. It's late, I'm confusing myself. Where's the rule book???

X2, with out a holeshot and 2 or 3 smooth laps to sprint out front, gonna be a long year for mike.
X3, He has even said that he sets up his engines for the holeshot and then learns to ride it through the rest of the track.

It does not matter what bike Mike rides. The bike is not going to hold him back. he needs to stay healthy and beat RV early in the series to have a chance. IMO he has beat RV in the first 2 races heads up. If he does not then he will need RV to get hurt to win the title.

Mike can choose to ride the 350 OR the 450!

The only question i have is, can he choose to ride the 350 one week and a 450 the next, or does he have to decide which one and stick with it for the season?

The reason i ask that? Well because if he can ride the 350 on tracks that clearly suit a smaller bike, and the 450 on the power gobbling tracks, then EVERYONE else will be in trouble, just my opinion.

exactly. unless they change the rules specifically for this bike, it will weigh the same as a 450.

KTM has to have to have 400 untis in the country for sale by the end of May for it to be legal.

if not how will they be able to bend the rules to be able to race it?

The rule is 400 Units by May. This goes for Supercross & Nationals.

Yamaha has made it.

Suzuki has 3 months to bring in 400 RMZ250's - I bet they don't have a problem.

KTM has 3 months for the 350 - seems unlikely - but I bet they can ramp it up pretty quick. They've used their 1 time production exempt rule exemption.

I don't get the 400 units by May applying for Supercross - but that's what it is.

ok, so if the date is May, are you allowed to run SX before hand with nothing more than a a promise that you will have the bikes here after-the-fact? I mean lets say Stroupe wins the east and then Suzuki fails to bring enough bikes over. Does he get stripped of his title or??

Suzuki has enough units stateside already. They're fine.

KTM would need proof of units here though, as was said, they did use the exemption on lance smail a long time ago.

Having seen so much shit about him being on the 350frame with the 450motor. Also being on a 450 or the 350frame with 250f motor. Until I see his ass on the damn 350 with that friggin 350 motor and I can tell, then its shooting in the dark. I'll admit I like Mike but I'm a bit interested to see how his holeshot(s) might be.

I understand how it works with the production rule. I just wonder since they let the teams race the bike before the deadline what happens if they dont meet the 400 bike deadline AFTER they have ran the bikes for months.

Next weekend should be interesting. Mike is down to ride the pre season international at Hawkstone park here in England. Its a proper old school track with a nice big hill and southwick style dirt, and I expect it's going to be wet. Ideally this track favours the big bikes so it will be a good test for the 350.

Its the kind of track I'd expect a fit and inform Mike Alessi to thrive on.
