KTM 250 TPI vs SX250

The SX has plenty of hit and pulls very hard.

Has nothing to do with the Intake per se as much as that you're comparing an Enduro engine to the motocross engine.

Just an OEM head swap makes the enduro bikes hit harder. Not sure how different the port timing is, but surely its set up for more low and mid as well.

Rode my buddys TPI 250 head to head with my yz 250x and it was underwhelming.

The truth is those TPI bikes run really lean from the factory (probably because of emissions). I believe JD jetting and GET has some tuners out to help with this. It’s the same thing with the air boxes and the jetting on the carbed bikes, the way they’re set up from the factory they run like crap. Open up the air box, get some head work and set the squish maybe even do a slavens SX CDI and you’re set.

I've tested both and its kind of like comparing a rock crawler to a short course race truck. The TPI bike isn't meant to moto and the SX isn't meant to ride extreme terrain. The TPI is a bit lean from the factory but when you ride it offroad you'll realize how well and clean it runs down low in tight terrain into the mid. On top it tappers off a lot but it was never designed to be revved out a lot, all the power is in the traction range of the RPM. NOTE: DO NOT MESS WITH THE POWER VALVE SPRING ADJUSTMENT ON TPI BIKES, IT IS NOT LIKE THE CARBURETOR BIKES. The SX is snappy and has a more fun, free revving power and more over rev, but if you tried to take it on gnarly terrain it definitely takes more clutch work and will most likely stall more often.

And from what I read, there's no plan to putting"tpi" on the SX/TC anytime soon.

^^^ There really isnt a reason too since closed course doesnt need to meet emissions and most moto tracks for 99% of the world are below 2,000 feet in elevation and temperature doesnt affect jetting nearly as much as elevation.

Enduro guys though, EFI is nice to have. Especially those that live in the Rockies or Coastal ranges, both Canada and USA. Plus, if you can plate one where you are, the OI would be handy. Not needed for EFI, but its just another convenience to have to not have to carry a small bottle of oil with you.

We do a lot with GET - and I can say the ECU for this - transforms the power - huge improvement.

Likely WONT pass euro emissions like that though!

The sx version is extremely OVERWHELMING vs a std yz.

I had a chance to test ride 2019 KTM 250 EXC TPI on a motocross track few months ago. One thing I can say about the bike is that it definitely doesn't belong to motocross track. The motor has a lot less power than 250SX and it all comes at lower rpm's. Gear spacing doesn't work for motocross either and suspension is way too soft. I think the bike is great for what it is designed for, single track trails, but not for motocross use.

SX250 is a donkey punch bro. Of course I'm 155lb soaking wet, but she's got plenty.
