hydrolock will do that.
I agree. That engine looks pretty clean, like it was submerged....

bingo. my first thought. its squeaky clean like some 14 yr old kid rode it though a puddle and sucked a gallon of water thru the airbox... also, the cold water hitting a hot cylinder will distort and even crack it without even sucking the water thru the airbox. Hot metal + cold water = no maam.

I still see most of the rod intact, looks like it broke around the piston pin. The Katoom went kaboom. Never seen a smoker scatter like that.

Those parts would go on my wall of shame.Smile

This thread will either lead to:

a) 2-stroke vs 4-stroke

b) Carlosmacho vs KTM

Wow, that's the worst I've ever seen. Tops my '92 CR250 when the skirt broke off of the cylinder and decided to wedge itself between the piston and crank at BDC while turning 9,000rpm. Bad shit bros!

My guess a sieze while @ top speed. After the siezure, you would have all the force of the rear wheel jackhammering against the top-end.

Meh, a little polish and elbow grease; that'll buff right out.

The sad thing is... you could have that happen 2-3 times and still afford it over 1 4-stroke blowing up. Tongue

I was wondering if there were 441 or 557 number plates on that bike too.
Carleton blew one up the same way.

Squeeky clean? Well maintained? Look at the grool coming out of the power valve. That thing hasn't been touched in a while. It looks like hydro lock to me as well. It even split the head apart. NEVER saw that before.

I have seen this before on 2 stroke hydroplanes boats @ 100 MPH,

least when they grenade the motor parts are behind you not underneath you.

My guess is detonation considering it blew the sparkplug out the top.

I'm guessing an overheated motor then a detonation due to the head being cracked too.

but....but....but..... two strokes dont break! get newman on this ASAP! This has to be photoshop propaganda by honda. That is really a four stroke motor, only those break. They just had a team of asian hackers and photoshop wizards working around the clock to put a two stroke cylinder, intake, and head in the pic to deceive everyone!

Yeah but I thought Carleton already had one of these explosions before that as well.

Maybe I'm remembering wrong.....I am old after all.
