Call me crazy but I don’t see the value. He’s definitely a talented guy, but in all honesty had McElrath not dnf’ed Arlington in 17 he probably would not have a title. It’s aggravating to see a guy either not care or not be good enough to do worth a damn outdoors. I know he had the opportunity to ride indoors only on a PC contract, so my question is how is this helping his worth. I get Atlanta on the 450....blah blah blah. Seriously what can JGR see in him? Maybe a few top 5’s indoors on the 450 and top10’s on a great day outdoors? It’s ridiculous how lopsided the sport is towards SX. Not trying to shit on Hill it’s just aggravating to watch guys above his worth IMO get overlooked because he can get a win vs half the field in a 15 min race. I wish MX were 17 rounds and SX was 12. It’d give more value to the guys who can grind.

I think he has 2 top 5 overalls outdoors in his entire career. That’s so bad for a guy with his talent. And this year in SX he was terrible by his standards and then he wins a race. Things were looking up. But then he rode the 450 and after the success there he didn't have any motivation back on that 250 in my opinion. It’s just crazy the difference in his abilities from indoors to out. SX only has his name all over it.

Completely agree. I was really hoping for him to come out and put in a solid top 10 ride at Hangtown, but he did just as many predicted.... outside the top 15

I think the value they see in him is on the 450 in SX, that’s where all the money is in the sport. If he trains hard I think he’ll go alright on the 450 next year, well in sx anyway

It's a waste of time and money to have him out there on a 250. We saw the same thing last year.

Nothing wrong with being SX only. But stick to that series. I don't understand what he and JGR are doing at the moment, this is a lose-lose situation.

Gotta make up your minds guys. If he was sitting home on the couch everyone would be all up in arms about why he didn’t get a ride while three digit guy did. Hill is making a living racing dirt bikes. There’s a reason his season number is 46 while he wore the 1 in SX.

I agree with you, but I think the thing that pisses people off is that he CAN ride outdoors, and very well, he just doesn't care. Most of us would give our left nut to have the talent he pisses away riding around in 15-20 place outdoors. It's embarrassing, or it should be, to Justin and his team.

If I remember correctly ML512 previously said that Hill's 450 ride has stipulations in his contract based on his 250 results. If that's the case he better step his game up and start making things happen.

As a 450 team manager would you take Justin Hill or Justin Bogle?
One can win indoors and one can win outdoors.

Why wouldn't Hill look at how Brayton is molding his career, and model it after that? Do your thing for a team that will pay you well to ride SX, ride a few international races to make a little more money, and never ride a national again? JGR would win in this scenario too, as they could field a guy that wants to be out there and is more competitive!

For the record, I am with Matthes in that I don't think Hill has earned this kind of power, yet. He won a regional championship and then showed a flash or two of speed in a race..before crashing.

He is WAY off the pace. He is most likely more interested in having fun that training hard and eating right.

He has a 450 SX deal next year. I give him 8 outdoor moto's until vacation time. Just like Malcolm, he will have 6 months to prepare for A1 2019.

REMINDER....JGR is the factory team therefore he still has to perform on the 250, If you does not start getting in the top 5 consistently, he will not be around for the 450 ride.

I like Justin but I’m with you, he won’t be anything special in the 450s. Jgr wastes tons of money on him and Phil.

He actually has 5 top fives overall. One in 2013, one in 2014, one in 2015, and two in 2016. His best was 2nd overall at Glen Helen 2015.

Well, not to say it is the bike, but the Suzuki is definitely not helping. Plus I think he is going to be very strong when he moves up to the 450s. Have a feeling he's just biding his time until then.

Hope he picks it up a bit though this season. I'm sure he'll have some better finishes.

I said this after his championship last year. He will have a few good rides on a 450, but that will be about it. Racing a 450 in sx with no pressure is totally different than racing a 450 full time. How many times have we seen that happen?
5/22/2018 4:32pm
I can’t even remember the last time a rider held back to defend a 250 SX championship and got smoked

I wasn't watching in 2009, but Jason Lawrence and Trey Canard were the defending champs and didn't finish well in the standings. (Lawrence only raced 3 times. Canard raced 8 times and won once.)

Well he can really shred a 450 and after getting a taste of the 450 class i cant imagine he was super excited to hop back on a 250.

Ok let’s look at the big picture- A few yrs ago, he absolutely shredded the Monster Cup on a 450.
Then wins a SX title, gets on an undeveloped bike, still wins a SX race.. Now outdoors, has one race w/ average showing..
IMHO, He’s not an Outdoor contender.. He’s out there for exposure, and to gather experience.

Anyone that rides a 450 like Hill indoors has value... Lots of it.

He’s got many yrs ahead of him- Still very young

Shredding and being consistent is two different things. he’ll be like his brother, fast in videos and tons of style but he won’t be anything special. You don’t go from just a top 10 guy to getting top 5s in the 450 class.

"if he trains hard" lol

In my opinion, he got over confident on the 450. What we saw wasn't his every week speed, it was a guy stepping up to a bigger bike and hauling ass and then realizing he was riding a little over his head. It happens all the time.

"gather experience" you realize he's been a pro for like 6 years right?

Yeah I know, but if I’m not mistaken, he’s missed a few seasons of outdoors-

Shoot, Osborne was Pro for many yrs before he went to the GP’s-

If I were JGR, it’d be worth a gamble for a couple seasons.
