In 2 or 3 years chances are Tomac, Barcia, Anderson, Musquin, Roczen Osborne, Wilson and Baggett are retired. Gonna miss that generation Blink

Not a bad guess. I do think some of those have the determination to race well in to their 30s though.

And Roczen is only 25 so he´s probably have more years.

After the last few years I can see Roczen calling it sooner than most do. Chronic fatigue is no joke and pushing it may not make him a happy dude in the long term.

Baggett strikes me as a dude who could race until he’s 35.

Na, I think there will be more 30+ riders coming. There not making enough cash to retire early....if you are 28 and you could make $300000 per year riding dirt bike why quit to make $50000 a year in construction doing 60hr weeks.

I could see Osborne racing well into his 30s, maybe going back to the GPs for a year or two

On Saturday I'm getting a good start, hitting my marks, staying away of trouble and calling a white flag the checkered flag.

Me, not so much... except for Barcia and el Hombre, a rather boring bunch on a personal level.... great skilled riders, but most were super vanilla (Dungey anyone?).....

Our sport needs another Hannah.......

Things may change. Depending on how things go and safety equipment we could see more riders racing into there mid 30s if they can stay competitive and how talented the younger generation is coming in.

10 years ago people were saying that about their current batch of riders...and 10 years before that the same about that one. There is a reason people say that nothing is ever as good as it used to be...but the sport continues to fill in with good and fast talent. There will always be a solid core of 18-26 year olds (+/- 4 years on either side) that do amazing things on a dirt bike and make it fun to watch.

I'm 32 and this thread shook me.

Hard to believe that the riders I've been watching since their amateur days are going to be retiring.

WHAT????? Racers retire?

You mean Kent Howerton, Tony DiStefano, Bob Hannah, Marty Smith. Broc Glover ....... stopped racing?
3/6/2020 11:35am
I wish these guys would be able to and willing to take a year or two off. Reset, live a non-racing life, I would say join the real world but that wouldn’t happen lol..., then come back refreshed for a few more years.

AC, Sexton, Mcelrath, Ferrandis, Marvin, Jett Lawrence probably. They’ll be running the show in a couple years.

Sorry but your post is confusing. What show are they gonna be running in a couple years? Jett and Chase are great young prospects and AC still has time but Ferrandis and Mcelrath will both be 26 by this summer and MM will be 31 at the end of the year.

The only one I can think of who actually did that was Christian Craig. He seems to have done well again after a break and working Construction. Good point Sir!.

Was gutted when JS7 retired. All these riders are who I follow/ followed when I got into the sport, I don't know if I'll be as excited when they retire

You’re working for the wrong construction company if you’re making 50k a year @ 60 hours a week.

Well,

Saw Marty smith, billy grossi, Jimmy weinert, jim pomeroy, Tommy croft, tony d, and many others fade away from racing in the late 70's/early 80's.

They didn't get farewell tours. Even lackey slipped away with little fanfare even though he was certainly due.

Life went on.

It still will.

Somewhere on a Stacyc is a future mx icon.
