We got a new 2016 Tacoma in December and we have been taking it out almost every weekend. She gets really bored so she thought about getting a quad. I grew up riding dirt bike and quads were for old Men, girls, and night riding after sitting around the fire got boring.

I started looking around Craigs and found a few hits and many misses. We had a friend who has 4 daughters that bought 3 midsized quads and a 230f. They had a Honda Sportrax 250ex, a 300 Raptor, and a 250 Suzuki something. The Sportrax was the one I always rode and I liked the longitudally placed engine, the shaft drive completely enclosed in the swing arm, and the oil cooler. Almost nothing to break.

I found a nice 2002 Sportrax 250ex for sale in San Bernardino. Picked it up tonight for 1500. It has front and rear DG aluminum bumpers, Big Gun pipe, very clean, and current registration. Many 250exs in worse condition were listed for 2000 to 3000. For 13 years old, the plastics are scuffed and the underside of the frame is almost scratch less. The guy also bought a real Honda seat that was manufactured in November! Those go for around 105 bucks and I'm sure he bought it at a dealership....

My wife was really excited. We are going to go to Chaparral on Saturday morning to get a helmet for her, some fluids, and a new gas can. Then to service it that morning and take it to Stoddard to teach her to ride. I know it probably doesn't need service, but just to make sure.

It's got a Green Sticker!

Rolled it in and set the parking brake. Never done that before with a bike....

It's very clean for 13 years old.

As for me, I will be driving the truck until I get my 250 ready to ride. I stopped riding when my health insurance was dropped in college. I haven't ridden since 2010 but this has sparked me to clean the carb and drain my gas tank on my 2002 yz250. It's a green sticker, as well. Also has a fresh bottom end installed around 2008 after it blew the shim on the crank. Maybe has 10 hours on that bottom end.

Dude its an MX/dirt bike forum. Most people here are not quad fans, including myself, but congrats on purchase for wife.

Congrats man! I can tell you're excited about it all. Not a fan of quads myself, but at least you're going to roll out the old yz as a result of it. Happy riding.

Nice machine. Sips fuel, shaft drive, quite bulletproof. Essentially a sport version of the Recon. My Dad has two (Recons) for yard chores and trail riding. Shaft drive is nice. Even though they are worn out, the stock tires still on it says it was not rode hard and put away wet. Looks like it's in great shape. I would just take the time to make sure the carb is jetted properly for the exhaust.

Edit: not exactly thread related

Don't know if you frequent Tacomaworld forums, but lots of people have issues with trans fluid being low on the automatics. Don't know if yours is having any shifting problems, but it's worth having it checked. My 2016 was 1.5 quarts low from the factory.

Good little quad.. I bought one just like it for my son years ago. almost no time on it. The owner couldn't get it to idle and I knew it was just a plugged pilot jet from sitting. Got a smokin deal, went home cleaned the jet and he proceeded to beat the heck out of it. Sold it for more than I paid.. Good luck with yours.

My wife has a 07 Rancher 430 4X4 she bought new, takes that thing everywhere. I like it cause she can haul stuff while I am on my bike on trails. Cool
Not sure if you will find new tires for that price. We just put new tires on it that she likes Made in USA "ITP Blackwater" Maybe find some used tires or take offs from a dealer?

We got it for 1500. It is very clean and well taken care of. It was around 1000 less than similar quads on CL and only a couple hundred more than blown up ones.

She won't beat on it but I bought a Honda because it will last with simple oil changes

Don't see what all the fuss is about quads. I have one and a bike. Bike is for MX and the quad is for trails. Every so often I take the quad to the MX track and have some fun
Nice purchase for your girl. I've been wanting to get my girl something to ride

Tell her not to drift around the corners and blow out all the berms and ruts on the Vet track.

Thx

That's great! I bought my daughter (6yrs old) and wife quads back in December.

We've done 5 day trips to Ocotillo Wells since December and every time I roll down the mountain and see the desert I get a shit eating grin that doesn't go away for days because I get to ride with the 2 most important people in my life.

So go ahead and post the gay-quad memes. I'll be making memories with my girls that'll last a lifetime.

What a bunch of dumb shits in this thread. Dude buys his wife a quad so she can ride with him. Then all the 15 yr old boys come out and talk shit! Hey my wife has a Suzuki Ltz250 cause that's what she wants to ride. I have a kx450 & a 4 mil Banshee making 75 plus horse, I like riding in the sand! My 12 yr old daughter has TRx250r quad and a CR85 she rides both in the sand. I bet my two nuts she could smoke most of these 15yr olds on her 85 in the sand! Congrats getting your wife into riding with you. Nothing better than riding with your family.
