Old news to some maybe, but interesting for this to finally come from Matthes. He's got a pretty fair history of being right. Grant is not who I'd have expected...

I was kind of hoping CP would get a shot at the ride. He lives pretty close to Chad as well

Word is Josh comes with his own sponsor to help offset the costs...

This has been getting kicked around since Glen Helen. As most are aware, the rumor is that Josh is bringing in an outside sponsor to the team. I guess we'll see. Smile

As long as Grant is Here Living in The Now I think he should be alright.

Reed is probably smart enough to lock Grant in with a performance based contract. Low risk high reward if Grant can find a way to finish a season.

I've never been a big fan of Josh's...but that doesn't matter. The outside sponsor makes great sense, but I was thinking that Grant might be a really good fit for some other reasons. He's fast...but inconsistant. There have been huge flashes of amazing riding...and then a lot of mediocre finishes. But, he's got a good heart (like Reedy)...is married with children (like Reedy)...and will probably give 100% of what he's capable of giving to the team (like Reedy).

Maybe CR22 sees a champion in the kid.

Sounds good to me, both great riders and fun to watch.

Will be cool to see another bike on the team, and Chad might enjoy a teammate to discuss things with.

I would even entertain the idea of keeping Byrne on the team as a rider and tester, he would come at a very cheap price, knows what Reed wants, gets along with the whole team, has a good fan base (not that Reed or Two Two are struggling in that area) and if results could put him in the top 15 its more exposure for Two Two at the pointy end of the field

Don't they say riders are hired on the potential to win a race, a moto, or leading laps during a race / moto over a consistent guy that will finish 5-10 every weekend? JG has the resume if strictly going off that type of thinking.....450 SX win, and a few moto wins, and laps led.

Think JG might be a good fit there; I could see him doing well. Maybe not a championship contender, but a consistent top ten guy indoors w/ a few podium finishes; possibly a win if the stars are aligned. Could be a spoiler outdoors. Would like to see it happen myself.

From what I have seen on Instagram, there is a lot of validity to your comments about family and kids and all of that. They are definitely good friends off of the track.. I think half of the photos lately of Reed's son Tate has been with Grant's boy playing (I think they are the same age). I believe their wives are friends, etc. Obviously that shouldn't influence business decisions, but it sure can't hurt to be buds at that level.

Maybe Chad's looking at it as a business decision, not solely based on results? Nobody here knows the details, just vital speculation. Grant was flying in the outdoors this year, and i believe he can be successful at 22.
Good luck to them

I'm convinced that social media breaks more friendships than it builds.

I took a snapshot of chatter from a supposed "bro" during the Baja 1000 last year. I printed it and posted it on the wall of our race shop so everybody on the team would know what their "friend" actually thought of the team.

Be careful what you post! It can, and will, be used against you in the Court of Bro.

I wish them the best for sure, but if you check the results lately 22 and 33 = DNF, DNF

That is the question.. It only needs to be enough money to cover salary and expenses as far as Discount Tire/22Motorsports is concerned. From what I have heard, with RV (possibly?) not racing for Kawi next year, they can budget for a factory bike for Josh along side Chad.

As always, I could be wrong.

I like it. Sounds like a win for both of them. A new sponsor signs with the team and two friends get to pit under the same tent.

Yikes, now I know I've hit my head too many times. It took me a minute to remember which round... then I remembered I was standing in the final corner at Glen Helen and shot pictures of him taking the win. Blink
