Having just watched the GP in France, if you think the posts/signage along the track was dangerous at Hangtown, you will have a heart attack if you watch that race and intentionally look for post / fences / anything near the course that could injure a rider, they are all over the place.

Glad Josh is OK, it sounds like RJ got the shorter end of the stuck for running into something just right.

A rogue sign post at some mtb place in Oregon recently got the place shutdown. Similar incident caused injury insurance company got involved.

Happen just recently a couple months ago.

We can all learn from this near-miss. Thank God he didn't get punctured.

I'm actually surprised that the sharp sign post picture is still viewable on VITALMX?

Did it though?

How are we 100% certain?

Just because he had a bad crash wearing it and it broke that means it saved him?

Look closer.
It looks like the T-post anchor cut up the plastic.

It kinda does, yes.

I'm just so tired of the neck brace crowd touting these things as so awesome "saved me" or "saved them" when really nobody has a clue if it actually saved anybody.

Agreed. But I'm not the one making definitive statements like: "Leatt saves another rider from serious injury." when I have no clue or proof that it actually did a damn thing.

Flexible schedule 40 PVC piping with a cap on top would be a much better alternative to a steel T-post. Yes, you're somewhat at the mercy of the wind but it is a good trade-off in my opinion.

I went to Washougal years ago and couldn't believe how close to the track they had wooden stakes hammered into the ground to hold up banners.

It's asinine and completely irresponsible to have any type of stake around a track and a lawsuit or possible OSHA fine? waiting to happen.

The nice 1 X 2 wood stakes would punch through your googles and eye socket or abdomen. Can't believe this practice is still used. One of these days (or maybe it's happened? ) there is going to be a death or life altering accident. You sure as hell can't get away with this type of stuff in the business world, sure makes you question if there is any type of AMA safety protocol? MX gets enough bad rep to injuries, don't need to add more fuel to the fire.

Someone needs to start being proactive and step up and start protecting these guys.

Prove it.

Or is it easier to just emotionally call names so that you feel better about the money you spent on your neck brace?

A square metal frame with chain link fencing attached to the metal stake ! Angry whose idea was this ?

Was it removed because the advertising fence was damaged beyond being used again ?

Beyond belief.

Also these mules that run close to the track need to be banned as well

Guess if we all want to be safe, we should just race in a open flat field. Every one bitching about this or that not being safe, there is always going to be something around a track that you can hit if you go off the track.

If they run off the track is the reason you & the other spectators are kept back more than 4’

Better than the quad on the track that took out Reynard…surprised we never heard about a law suit over that one

I think that anything you wear that helps, or in this case shows that it did help to avoid injury is fine with me. And my neck is worth a couple hundred bucks

Well, I’m just as qualified to say they don’t work as you are to say they do. 🤣

Well I’m pretty sure it saved him by taking the brunt of the metal pole instead of his neck taking it. So yeah, you’re wrong. You are the one upset here that someone said it saved him. Josh believes it saved him, so I will take his word for it, not yours.

The fact that the AMA/mx sports doesn't have standardized safety requirements that all national tracks must abide by says a lot their level of sophistication.

Love the logic. Mx is so dangerous might as well make it worse. Using that logic maybe riders should put grease on their grips to make things more interesting. Or even plant spike on the side of the track to impale riders if the get offline.
