Not sure if this has been posted yet so sorry in advance if it has. I looked back a few days and couldn't see anything...

Josh Coppins announced on the weekend at round 8 of the Australian MX Nationals that he will call it a day at the end of the 2012 season.

This brings to an end Josh's 17 year career as a Pro.

Saw him at Red Bull Pro Nationals riding pretty good. But noticed that he could barely walk. Don't know if he was injured at that moment. But he can still twist the rubber no doubt.

Josh came oh so close to the Aussie Championship last year, only to crash out at the last round. I wouldn't have been surprised if Josh had retired at the end of last season had he won the championship.

He is definitely hungry to win it in his final year and, after a win at Rd 8 on the weekend, has a slender 12 point lead.

Josh has been my hero since I was 10 years old. It is a great injustice that he didn't win the world MX1 title in 2007. I was so gutted for him at the time. I wish him the best with his future endeavours.

Does anyone know if Is he going to give racing away all together, or will he keep racing in NZ?

Dunno, the NZ series is only 4 rounds isn't it? He could do that I guess. Depends on what he moves onto next, like team management or something

Josh has had some pretty gnarly injuries over the years. He broke his back and both of his feet/ankles quite badly at the Phoenix(?) Supercross in 2003. I read somewhere that the doctors told him he would never walk again, but I am not sure if that is true. He hit a downed bike and injured one of his feet in 2008 too. He also had a run of shoulder injuries in 2005-2006.

The walking difficulty you noticed could have been the result of an old or new injury, but I don't really know.

Yeah, the NZ MX nationals is only a 4 round series, each consisting of three 25 minute races. The NZ Supercross championship, and several other big MX races (Woodville NZ GP, Whakatane Summercross) run over a short period leading into the nationals, forming a short "season." With Ben Townley and Cody Cooper racing, he would have to be on his game to be competitive.

I believe Josh said at Woodville this year that it would be his last time there, however.
