Joker Lane immediately following long rhythm section? This should be interesting, especially where it re-enters the track.

its a bad location , if there is someone able to triple true the section it is ending into a single to make the joker lane and if there is someone brave enough he could possibly make it over the wall jump just infront of the exit of the joker lane.

I would flip the joker lane around so they re enter the track at the sand section

Because the track maps are accurate to what is built in the real world.

It will be fine.

I bet that last part of the rhythm lane is a wall jump. So, seems fine to me.

It will be fine. If it will be exactly there and built that way, it will probably be like wall, joker lane entry, wall, joker lane exit. No way that there will be any doubleing or tripling there.

The joker lane would be better if it was a "short cut" rather than a longer length section.

Joker Lanes work so much better as a short cut. They did it in Sydney last year and there were two very obvious benefits straight off the bat.

1- No rider will ever forget to take a short cut/cheater line if there is one available. As it stands, no rider is willing to give up track position and fall back into the clutches of everyone so they all wait to the last lap and we see no real change in the race at all.

2- Provides an opportunity to pass. On a track like we generally see at the Monster Cup there is next to no passing. Get a bad start, that's where you stay. Having a short cut gives you a Fast and the Furious NOS type boost to get a bit of track position early if you're a top guy with a bad start, or to make a pass and sprint for free track if you're faster than the immediate opposition.

But hey, there's so much tradition and history revolving around this race, I understand why they are hesitant to change anything when it works so well already DryDry

Plus, if they do forget, they've already penalized themselves. It will never alter the outcome of a race.

This version would actually work better if the joker lane was a passing spot like in Aus... ie the shorter route.

One of the problems having a short cut Joker lane is that it would be used by the top 5-10 on the first lap to avoid being passed and losing the lead/top spots giving the leaders a larger advantage.

Unless you kept it closed until lap 5 or so, then the leaders would most likely use it right away.

The way it is now allows someone mid pack to use it early when they are stuck in the pack and then blast past later in the race. Similar to how Tomac won a moto there in 2013.

Maybe there could be two joker lanes, one long, one short, and heck even a third one with a shark pit and a ring of fire.

The very idea of a racing event with a "Joker Lane" is a guarantee that I will never watch it. What a joke, indeed.

As if F1 "DRS Zones" weren't stupid enough.

I know it's a small sample size but in Sydney that's not how it was used. There was strategy, guys tended not to use it straight away, they saved it for when they could pass/gain advantage.

I don't remember the tomac situation you're talking about but the joker lane has pretty much only affected the outcome of the race if someone forgets to use it at this stage.

I would think that you would want to keep the Joker lane closed until the halfway mark.

Wave a half way flag signal over the finish and the have some stuff light around the Joker lane shortcut to signal it as "open". The last half of the race guys start using it and if there are visual cues, it would make it a simple, exciting deal.

Even better one on Rainbow Road after the finish line to use a booster to jump and try and land on another section of the track. We had serious Mario Kart series in my college days.

In my opinion, the Joker lane is dumb...MEC trying too hard to be different.

Forgot about that one! The suspense from the free fall was intense, haha!

No whoops? Is this an mx track?

Joker lane works much better as a 'short cut'

Mario Kart 64, jumping over the finish line wall on Wario Stadium, instant winner.
