The kid may not be the fastest but he is a great ambassador for PC and he is quietly building his results each week.

I'm really starting to dig the dude. Humble as they come.

A new Shimoda fan here.

Consistent, smooth, in-control, workmanlike, and podium speed on top of it all... And he's still getting faster.

Seems like the makings of a very long career in a tough sport.

One needs to see JoShmo on a 450: your Fan Appreciation will only get better. The dude is a study in “smooth is fast”.

Soooo Stoked for “JoShmo 2021”!

Good point, those do seem like the things that lead to a long career on good equipment.

Good for him, he won me over when he got on the podium in SX and was like "this is great but I want to actually earn one now"

Refreshing to see these young 250 riders humble. Seems like a good kid and works hard for what he has been given. Has made me a fan this year for sure.

Not the least bit flashy, a very quiet personality...
Sorry, he bores me to death.

He'll be the perfect electric bike factory rider.

I'm optimistic about his future because he's out there logging laps, not crashing, and you have to think he'll just get faster. Being Japanese myself I've been so excited about him since his amateur days, so I'm glad to see it all paying off in the pro ranks.

His rate of improvement has been really impressive.
It's a cool story, i hope he keeps it up and keeps getting better.

I was just talking someone about him and specifically the timing that is Shohei Otani doing incredible things in the MLB at the same time Jo is finding his way in MX here. It is strange that it's not talked about more, that he's a Japanese-born rider performing at a very high level which I feel like we've (almost?) never seen. Even though he's a young 250 guy for now, surely he's on track to break some records just like Otani has been doing. Really cool to see.

I promess I'll think about it if ever Shimoda becomes more exciting to watch or listen to than frozen jell-o.

Am I allowed to feel the Lawrence bros are ten times more interesting in every way, or is that against your rules?

I am a fan of
Any MX rider who
Inspires haiku.

All kidding aside, I like the guy. He deserves a nickname. There are so many potential monikers that surround his heritage, but I'm afraid those days may soon be behind us. It will be racist and/or culturally insensitive to call him something that would actually be a pretty great MX nickname, even if it's intended as a compliment. Instead his super-unique name will be something like JS30. Unsure

He seems like he's almost the polar opposite of Forkner, in almost every way.
The way he speaks on the mic and in other interviews/podcasts, you just get the feeling he knows he's the student and he listens.
I'm guilty of not really paying attention to him prior to this year, but I'm a huge fan now.

Been a fan since he won the Amateur All Star Race at Monster Cup in '18. He's one of those guys like Ichiro was in baseball; he's not going to beat you with flash, he'll do it by hammering down the absolute fundamentals of the sport.

Cracks me up when he's being interviewed on the podium though, because he has no idea what to do with his hands.

Jo is going to be another Dungey with his riding style and I'm all for it! maybe not the titles.. But the kid is what PC needs.

I think its so cool to see how Jo and Jett are such good mates off the track. But also the complete opposites. Future of the sport is in good hands.

The difference is that what Shohei's doing hasn't been done since the baseball GOAT did it 100 years ago.

I was just going to post this same thing; the future of the sport is bright. The Lawrence brothers, Shimoda, Wackers, and a few more. I'm not a fan of Swoll but at least he has a personality.
We're in for some good years hopefully.

Yep was going to say the veteran Forkner would be wise to pay attention to what Jo is doing and how he’s doing it

I think he really proved himself in the recent Supercross season.

Definitely a fan of his and can't wait to see his progress over the next couple of years.

So far what I am impressed with the most is Shimoda's patience to slowly build his speed. This sport is littered with fast kids who weed up and spend way too much time healing up and not advancing their speed and technique. Jo only has to look across the rig to see a perfect example in Forkner. Staying healthy and not becoming a fast guy who crashes a lot is the right formula for success in the long term.

I like his podium speeches. Not bad for still learning English. He seems like a real person and as long as his speed keeps increasing I think the Japanese companies will be falling over themselves to sign him to a 450 ride in a couple years. Just think HRC could have had him and the Lawrence brothers.
