Doesn't suck too bad for Jerry though! He is still at the big show and now he gets to ride a more reliable bike that he is faster on! AND he doesn't feel guilty for not riding the 1985 after getting all this support! Win win!

You are of course correct. That of course is what really matters here!

Question is, how roached is the back up bike? Hope Jerry's week turns around and he's able to get through the 6 motos with some good finishes. Good luck!

In a private, small-team-supported project like that, I'd imagine to have a back-up plan for each and every part might be a little difficult, especially since there are only so many people on the team and only so much money to cover every task. Personally, I find it hard to point the finger over such an issue, since I have no real insight to what's going on with that project, other than a bunch of my speculation and a few small stories on the internet.

All that sand would have probably eaten his 85 Honda alive anyway.
It already did! That's where he was when it let go.

If I have been reading correctly, this is the motor to the bike he will be racing now. Or at least this is the bike he was riding at SOB.

Let me break it down for you, manifesto style

1. 2 strokes are making a come back

2. they are more reliable

3. they are easier to fix and half the cost

4. I threaten anyone who say's different.
1) May be true. Lots of 2 strokes lately and they are VERY expensive used
2) No freaking way. I beat the piss out of every bike I own. I have blown up every single 2 stroke I have owned multiple times. Only wrecked one 4 stroke. When the 2 strokes grenade, it is generally less painful for my wallet than the 4 strokes. Cranks seem to die in my hands. When I raced 125s I did a crank once a year as a prophylactic measure to prevent issues.
3) Yes and yes...except for the crank in my RM250 was over 600 retail...YIKES!
4) Why did you threaten me? Jerk.

This is DrSweden's post from another thread, consolidated into this one...

Prolly already beaten to death, sorry if I missed the train. A bit cheesy, considering it appeals some of us on so many levels, and so crazy it's seems staged just to attract attention to us feeble minded, that digs smoker, old bike etc, back to basic old farts. Really the antimatter to whatever is promoted in AD these days.... But I just love the effort. Damn, that kid would probably kills 90% of riders of any given practice track anywhere.

Yeah, it's better to have it here.

So, he's not riding it anymore? Did the bike break and he is knocked out of LLs, or is he just racing something else?

Yea he blew it up in practice. Check out page 5 for the explanation. He is borrowing a 2007 CR250 now

These pages pop up too fast for me!Tongue Well, it was only a matter of time before the '85 broke down. At least he's got a bike, and at least it's a CR 2-stroke.

Look, at first I thought this deal was a con job, turns out Jerry is riding these old bikes because that's what he has to ride.

Im a converted fan and wish Jerry nothing but the best.

Now anyone thinking you can get the crank bearings at a bearing house are wrong, the crank bearings are an odd ball , not your typical 203 pump or alternator bearing.

Jerry deserves a shot on a competitive bike, not some side show circus with a bunch of sentimental goof balls reliving the past.

Right now 4 strokes rule , 2 strokes drool.

Good luck, Jerry!

If I were a millionaire I'd buy this kid a new bike in a heartbeat.

There are bikes blown up every year at LL. Most of the teams recommend jetting that is ragged edge lean. That will burn up a bottom end bearing in no time. Hate he won't be able to race the '85 but still wish him luck on the '07. LL is an expensive place to go in every aspect of racing. Hopefully he'll perform well enough to garner some support for next year.

So, the rod bearing went? It seems weird that they couldn't get one, maybe that particular model is offbeat, but that CR250 rod was common to the 250's for a long time even if it came under a different part number.

It is pretty neat and the effort is huge.

I honestly wouldnt have wanted to race a 1985 model back in 1990...let a lone 2013. Smile

Have you tried to buy a crank bearing for a 1985 CR250 at your local bearing House ?

I didn't think So.

And for all you little Vagina's that think I'm negative , piss off. I'm just realistic about the situation, Go ahead and wish all you want but old bikes are just Old and handicap a riders ability to compete.

Hey Guys, Probably a day late and a dollar short but, Honda CR250's used the same Rod Kits from 1983 to 2001. The same kits were also in the '85-86 ATC250R and TRX250R. They're everywhere! Wiseco, Hot Rods, Pro-X and Vesrah all offer complete aftermarket rod kits for this bike. There are over 20 of them on ebay right now. Anyway, best of luck to Jerry, Chad and team. Hope he smokes 'em on the newer bike.

I didn't follow all this thread at all. Even though I loved my 85 CRs back in the day, the 07 CR250 is THE perfect MX machine in my biased opinion. Cool
