I wouldn't have messed with porting he rides it great the way it is, some preventive maintenance sure, but why mess with success?

I'm sure he's been offered a support ride of some kind after Loretta's, so it has about two or three practices and six motos before its parked.

The porting is due to the fact it's was fairly slow. He was always getting lousy starts here at sob on it. He can handle the power he's been riding a modded 07 cr250 some while this one is being rebuilt and he absolutely rips on it.

Also pretty sure the porting specs came from someone at Honda who's built a few back in the day.

so during this rebuild does he have another 1985 to ride? or is it just downtime and gym time until lorettas hits?

He's been riding a 2000 and something CR 250.

So I wonder what compromises Chad is having to make with this build and how he's delt with the personal challenge to not find new parts that these top level guys usually work with.. A lot of parts must be showing some tolerance issues, hubs, center cases, streched frame.

We had to make do with a few parts like a clutch basket. Now they're breaking it in and getting the suspension and jetting dialed in.

Hope Jerry does well on the ole Honda! I always enjoyed those Chad Watts in-race interviews. Can't remember all the details, but at the start at a moto I think maybe DC asked him why he wasn't shading RC from the sun like the rest of the mechanics were doing for their riders and his reply was something like "he's going to be out in the heat anyway so why even bother." I thought he was a great match for RC.

I read somewhere that Bob Hannah would not use Air Conditioning in hotels or in the van so that he would feel like hot air was normal during the race.

Right now this is my favorite thread. Gotta love the David and Goliath stories!
