such a sick picture, thanks for the new wallpaper!

i still have my Bell Moto 6 replica of this helmet, although it's pretty beat up it's a collectors item to me. this dude is the reason i ever got interested in moto. i used to have a pair of the replica Fox Honda stuff from '95, i'll have to try to find it.

Both McGrath and Stefan Everts started racing at 15. Goes to show that chasing the dream doesn't need to start at 4.

In his book he talks about a jump he came up short and broke his ankle in the outdoors, that was a bad idea. If he hadn't he might of won two outdoor titles and not be considered a Supercross specialist.

Really? Everts? Whose father is a World MX Champion. I have never heard that before and I wasn't around to witness for myself.

Everts was riding world championships at 17. I think back then you could start later, getting difficult to do that now.

I think those days are long gone.

How many other pro's and current pros started riding 15 years old or later? And were able to just dominate for many years. Talk about raw talent......I doubt we will ever see another McGrath. But history repeats itself.

Before someone swings an axe at my head, I'm not arguing, just asking a question.

Ya i cringe when i hear MC as a SX specialist or when people discredit his MX skills. Imo he is very underated when it comes to moto. Style like no other, plus he knew how to have fun during his prime lol.

Mc never rode a dirtbike until 15. Everts started riding at 4 or 5 yrs old

Emig was way cooler imo. He got me into mx, that championship photo from 97 in the hot tub with the chicks in afros from vegas was pimp.....I guess MC's nipple rings and bleached hair was cool too?

Think you got your facts wrong Bobby.... Mc was riding way younger than that. Its in his autobiography "Wide Open"

Pretty sure he started on a JR 80 around 5-6 years old, and i'm sure that he started racing younger as well

Way cool and my favorite rider of all time. He oozed style and flow on a bike. Made it look effortless.

I was at that race. Cant remember the year but he was leading Emig in point heading into the Broome National. In practice he tried turning two tabletops into one!!!

Exactly what I was thinking. There's no way Everts didn't start until he was 15.

It was at Millville, I watched it happen. During morning practice he took an inside line through a left hand turn with a single jump right after it and tried to seat bounce onto a table top that was too far away. He landed on the face of the table top (not even close) and bounced almost all the way over it. I remember watching him size it up and thinking that there was now way he would try it. It was too far, even if you railed the outside in that corner. The title was his to lose that year and that injury helped Emig win the title.

Both MC and Everts were play riding before 15, but that's when they started racing. It's been mentioned many times over the years.

The attached article at the bottom of the first post
states that he didnt race motocross
until he was 15
It doesn't really say anything about play riding
but still pretty impressive imo to advance that fast

When I think of other guys that started late John Dowd
Always comes to mind
I remember hearing the chicken Jeff Matasavich
started late too .

I think it would . Harder now a days
maybe not impossible but Harder.
trying to compete with riders who have been trained
since they were Tate Reeds age Smile

I had thought Dowd didn't start racing until his late teens and actually turned pro in his 20's. I know he was a late starter....just not 100% sure how old he was.

Joel Smets started riding at 17 or 18 years old, and he became a World Champion..
