Jeffrey Herlings to race American MX series?

Edited Date/Time 3/12/2019 11:30am
Ping and GL talked about it at the beginning of the latest Whiskey Throttle podcast. Sounds like the big rumor making it’s way around the industry. They both seemed to think that it is more likely to happen than not.

Unless he's back for round 2 or 3, he's pretty much out of MXGP contention

If I was Jeffery Herlings I would do it...
Downside is he loses but whatever you’ve got one life ya know...

Who knows if he is ready when US Nationals begins. Bogers was out whole season after leg injury and Herlings havent given details if its as serious. If Marvin continues ride with his injured knee and doesnt go surgery there is little space left at KTM team in US to field 3 bikes with biggest egos of sport. Imagine Cairoli hit ground as well and they have no one at GPs then..

I don't think it's his call to make. Even if he wants to go for it, it doesn't mean that he will be able to do it.
Would be cool to see though. If he lines up I'll travel to Hangtown

It would definitely make the US series more interesting regardless of where he finishes.

I would love to see Jeffrey goes at it against the US field for 12 rounds !

Imagine a Tomac vs Herlings at Southwick or Washougal ?

He can really be one of the biggest legend of the sport by winning this title ! I am sure he realize it.

Gonna get a lot of dislike for this but i do hope he miss the first four rounds of the MXGP series...

I’d rather he didn’t race here and we speculate for the rest of our lives.

I Think he would , but not if he is Still building strength and speed back up from being injured which is likely, i think he would want to race at his full potential, but just my opinion
There could be some benefit in it as far as building for the GP season even if he dont win in America, they always say
You cant duplicate race conditions when trying to get practice so there is that.
I think it would be cool to have him even just for a few Rounds.

That would be amazing. After seeing him race in person a few times now. He is the most impressive rider I have witnessed in a decade atleast after RC, James and RV.

The KTM rig with Herlings, Webb, and Musquin? Not gonna happen, but it would be reminiscent of the Honda superstar teams of the early 80's.

1st he is still injured and nobody knows the time frame or the story of the injury because KTM are telling 2 different story's.

2nd if he is ready to go, he needs to have the goodwill from KTM, because his MXGP contract and possible a 3rd bike under the tent.

I dont see it happening until Musquin skips outdoors to get his knee fixed....

KTM won't run a three bike 450 team with three massive names. Especially considering how much support they're offering the Rocky Mountain team.

Herlings isn't just going for the 2019 MXGP title. He's trying to break Evert's all time win record. Even if he comes back 4 round in, or even 5 rounds in, he can rack up a bunch of wins and add them to his tally.

Herlings is a beast. Even if his foot is weak and he's been off the bike for a while, he can come back for round 2 and get a top ten and salvage some points. He rode with a broken femur in Mexico, and won last year with a fresh plate in his collar bone.

Herlings is NOT going to race the AMA Nationals this year.

With a full off season of practice here in the US on SX tracks I would put him 12th-15th at the end of the series if he survived.

You seem to be the definite source on the subject. Case closed.

Will it happen? Probably not.

Would I love to see it? Absolutely.

Kinda wish more Euros raced over here and vice versa.

Herlings needs to realize he has the control here. If he wants to go to the US and tells KTM he isn't racing the GP's, they will give in. They aren't going to make arguably the best rider in the world a free agent. Look at other sports, the best in there sport get there way. If KTM told Herlings to kick rocks there would be 5 other manufacturers with Brinks trucks at his house.

You have to remember that Herlings is not getting paid by American KTM. It's just a matter of logistics, which they can certainly handle. KTM has run 3 bike teams in the past.

"Herlings is NOT going to race the AMA Nationals this year."

Seems very presumptuous.

If he signed a contract to race the gps he has to honor that contract or face legal action unless KTM gives the OK.
