Jeff Emig, a really nice guy!!!

So this weekend my wife and I were at Ontario Airport heading off to Vegas to get away for the weekend and who's going there as well is none other that Jeff Emig and his wife. I spotted him right away, often times when I travel out of Ontario on Thursday/Fridays it's easy to spot racer during morning flight's while supercross/motocross is happening. I have to say that he was nothing less than an awesome guy. He took the time to chat with me several times even after we landed in Vegas and even called over his wife to introduce me to her. Me...I was like a kid in the candy store, it was only a couple months ago I was listening to his Steve Matthes podcast of him and watching him on TV every supercross on Speed and to see him in person was unreal. I have met other riders before, but nothing like him. I pretty much yapped my wifes ear off the whole flight about how cool he was and how nice. He even offered to meet up for drinks later when we got to Vegas. Me...just some average joe fan...Him nothing less than a professional athlete and I mean that. See he's what our sport can always use more of..a true professional athlete. I am sure he get plenty of "excuse me are you Jeff Emig", and if I wasn't so amazed I could of said more about our sport to him, but him nothing less than awesome and I mean that. Jeff Emig bud you are one cool guy and you really made my day...make that my year! Thanks.

Fro is definitely a great guy and an ambassador for our sport. Here's a short Emig story that tells you what kind of guy Jeff is:

Back in 2003 i was putting together my first Big Air Kid's Fair (although it wasn't called that yet) at Loma Linda Children's Hospital. My idea was to get some friends that were racing the Supercross series to come visit the kids at the hospital and give out some swag, since the riders were all in town for the first few rounds of the series. Still, it';s not easy to get guys to commit to taking an entire Thurs or Fri to spend at the hospital...they are usually pretty busy. So for the first one I ended up with Nate Ramsey, Danny Smith, Josh Hansen (subbing for his roommate, Brock Sellards), FMX rider Trevor Vines and Jeff Emig.

I had dropped off a couple of dozen "Bar to Bar" VHS tapes at the hospital a couple of weeks earlier so that the kids could watch and maybe have some idea of who these guys were that were coming to visit. When we arrived there to visit, almost none of the tapes had even been opened...I was bummed. So we tool in there and go into this Day Room where some really young patients were playing with their toys and stuff. It was pretty awkward at first, with the kids having no idea who these guys were, and a few parents wondering the same thing. None of us were too sure of how to act and Fro just sat down on the floor with the kids and started playing with them like he was their favorite uncle! It totally broke the ice and it ended up being a wonderful and rewarding experience that has grown into the Freestyle Exhibition and all day event that they tell me is the most anticipated of the year at the hospital. I feel a debt of gratitude to Emig for helping make it a success...we are doing our 10th Annual Big Air Kid's Fair in a couple of months. Thanks, Jeff!

In about 02 or 03 he was up at washougal for a fox ride day and he had borrowed a bike from the local kawi shop and i was in my box van workin on my bike and he comes over and asks me for a hammer and punch so he can set the sag on his bike. It was super cool. We ended up talking about riding training and he also had a KLX110 and i had my XR70 there and we did some laps together in the mini practice on them. He was a super nice guy.

I met Jeff and Weege at the hotel bar at the Phoenix Marriot during the 2009 PHX Supercross rd.... I was pretty drunk already and had to go say hi... I too thought I would have plenty to say to him, but, instead I am sure I sounded like Vince Vaughn at the beginning of Four Christmas when their flight gets cancelled and the reporter shoves the camera in his faces... we take the trips... Ha Ha!

That being said ... they were both really cool and we had a beer together!

I was lucky enough to ride at a couple Dirt Rider 24 hour shoot outs a few years back, first at the Peterson ranch and then at Glen Helen.

So, it's the middle of the night at GH and me and a buddy are looking at the schedule board trying to figure out what bike and what time we ride next... Up comes another Bro all geared up with helmet on, just as confused as we were. Between the three of us we manage to figure it out, it wasn't until Bro #3 said "oh there I am" and it said "EMIG" did I even realize, lol!

Just another cool Bro, Bros Smile

I was flying to Vancouver to see this chick I had met once when she came to visit her girlfriend in LA. I was gonna take her to the SX there as well. While waiting to get seated on the plane I saw this guy standing with Fro. When we got on the plane turns out the guy was sitting next to me and Jeff was about 7 rows away. After everyone is about seated the guy says,"Hey,are you flying alone? My buddy is sitting up there. Do you mind switching seats so he can sit by me?" I say,"as long as it's not that Emig dude. Can't stand that guy!" With a straight face. He just looks at me,stunned. Tongue I then start laughing and say sure,no problem.I say hello to Jeff and he thanks me. So ,we get to Vancouver and this 6 ft blonde hair blue eyed hottie picks me up near the gate and Jeff and his buddy stop and chat and he thanks me again. Saw him at the race as well and he's very cool. Dude can still haul. As a matter of fact I'll probably get roosted by him Friday,Saturday, and Sunday.Smile

1998 sx at las vegas. After race, hard rock casino. Jeff chillin' with some buds by the center bar. I muster some balls and go stand by him for a sec waiting for a good chance to say something to him. Of course like most, my words vanished. I said hello, then just said how much the new bikes(the '98 kx250) were awesome, and he lit up and started talking a mile a minute like I was an old friend of his. Was a big fan, but have been an even bigger fan ever since. Too bad about the tarnished image via the london bridge.

Steve,
I''ll never forget you introduced me to Emig at the Mini SX in Las Vegas back in 04.
That was cool.

I always was a big fan of Emig and when we were at the MiniSX Emig raced too and was hanging out at his fan with Antunez and those guys.
Bauer spotted Emig and said to me: You wanna meet Emig?
I was like: No, not really, let's just leave the guy alone.
But Bauer dragged me over to Emig, I was totally star struck and acted like a 5 year old kid.
I have some pictures of it and it shows. Laughing

I met Fro back at (if I remember right, which is iffy...) the US Open the year that The Rock won. Fro was walking around without a shirt on, with a huge gold chain and glasses big enough to make Reed jealous. I (thinking it would be funny) walked by him and said "Oats and bran? I never knew there was such a thing!" Fro was nice enough to laugh at my retardedness, and say "What up buddy?" We chatted for a few minutes, and he was extremely nice. I blew his cover though when I got a picture taken with him, and basically he was swarmed after that. Fro= good people. Jeff in that black Shift gear during the Nationals WAS Moto.

Have briefly talked to Fro a few times and literally ran into him in the elevator at the Hard Rock Hotel in Vegas. For being a living legend I must say he might be the coolest man alive- I'll admit, I'm not gay at all , but if I was I'd be gay for Fro...

Fro was the only rider ever to ask me what my name was and write a to and from when I was a kid. Always was a fan of fro. He's always chillin outside the pits when seattle sx rolls around and always has time to say hey.

Yeah, super cool guy. I still feel bad to this days for having stole numerous whisky cola at Bercy after party. Jeff was half drunk and every time he put his glass somewhere, me and my friends would take it and go on speaking with him while drinking his glass. So he would go to the bar and order one more... We were young, dumb, drunk and broke, and drinks were very expensive at this trendy place... Excuse me Fro!!! Anyway, he took the time to speak with us and was so cool. Awesome dude for sure.

My dad was racing pro back I think in 92, I was 9. I would go to many of the nationals with him. I remember Dilla that year(GP maybe.. ) I was sitting on the back of his box van cleaning his helmet. He was such a great guy or shit kid at that point. He hooked me up with a jersey that day as well.

I ended up running into him at LL's and he brought me onto Fox radio(base of finish line) live. So I stayed and talked to him a little bit. I ended up going and finding one of my buddies(Heath Wadhams Lyons,N.Y.). We went up to there a couple hours later and Fro was hanging out. Started going into cornering technique. It was an experience of a life time. One of my MX heroes.

I don't think fro is that bad of a commentator, at least not like Art Eckman. I even like him better than Ralph Shaheen, for sure.

Post a reply to: Jeff Emig, a really nice guy!!!
