Probably just testing different locations. Doubt you see it in production.

I haven't searched around too much yet for pics of other makes, but if you watch this replay of the races they do a rider/machine introduction before moto-1 and you can get a decent look at the bikes. Video starts at the introductions of the 450's. You can jump back to the same for the 250's (IA2) but I wasn't aware of any drastic bike changes in the 250's -

Looks like just a cylinder head change. The slant looks like it may reduce the intake angle even more.

I don’t think they are adjustable, but maybe shared frame with the 250. KTM is using the same frame for 2023 on its 250,350 and 450.

Yamaha uses the same frame for their 250 and 450 also.

I would need you guys to point out the differences in the kx450 photos. I have a 2020 kx450 and the valve cover looks a little different and maybe exhaust is shorter but some of you guys are amazing. Stuff like the counter shaft sprocket is 2mm lower and the throttle body has 2 butterflies. I don’t know how you guys see all that.

A big indicator the frame is different is the mounting points for the subframe and how the current plastics they are using to disguise the bike fit.

the muffler looks production and its shorter. the rear master cylinder is a new design. there is a flat carbon fiber cover to hide something at the airbox. it looks like where the subframe bolts on is a sharper angle.

The redesigned double boost port 04 cr125 looked really fast in practice. Ignition and exploding reeds problems left it out of the motos.

Actually, don’t all the Japanese MFGs share a frame between the 250/450?

The hanger mounts lowered shock mounts and slanted cylinder are all interesting. Are they trying to straighten out the intake?

I heard it didn’t make the motos because someone had tied it to the skin of a rice pudding.

Yes and no.
They all share the same frame design.
But often the part numbers are different as engine mount locations and stuff like that might mean there is mounting lugs in different sport. But essentially all the frames are the same.

KTM never had the same frame for 250/450. This year’s the first time they have done it.

Yamaha is the same part number for both.

For sure The Kawasaki shares the same frame dimensions between the 250 & 450, however the thickness of the material is different between the two for different flex.

That might be the case we other manufacturers also.

I was honestly kind of expecting full-blown, out in the open, all-new KX450 and YZF450 at this race. The KX for sure appears to have some changes but maybe just is masked with the old plastic. Hard to say with the YZF, as I haven't seen a good pic. But obvious the steering damper is being used. I thought the cluster/switch on the bar was different in a pic that I saw elsewhere too. Guess we will have to wait and see what the production bikes look like. I feel like in recent memory, the new bikes had been run out in the open w/ the new bodywork and everything, which is why I was expected that again.

I love that the Japanese teams are more creative with rim color. The gold rims on the Honda & Suzuki, and orange on the KTM are sweet.
