January California trip, where to stay?

Edited Date/Time 12/26/2018 9:16am
So we will be going to Glendale, then 2 weeks in Southern California. Was thinking of renting an RV spot at a track, or RV park near some tracks. Anyone know of places?

Pechanga Casino in Temecula has an RV park. That is pretty central to Cahuilla, Pala and Elsinore.

And not too far to Milestone and Glen Helen. Plus on your way to those two you can hit Pro Circuit, Troy Lee and Chapperal

I live in Lake Elsinore.

1. Did you want to ride different tracks or just 1 track?

2. Do you prefer softer terrain like sand or harder tracks?

3. Do you mind a little freeway noise when you are camping?

4. Do you prefer to stay by a lake if possible?

5. Do you want to swim or rent boats or jet ski's etc?

6. Do you want to stay at the same campground the entire time?

Pechanga and Vail Lake are on the south end close to Cahuilla Creek MX Park. Also, there can be a ton of slow traffic on the freeway in both directions from the 15/215 intersection to Pechanga and it isn't pleasant. From Vail Lake Campground, it is 70 miles to Glen Helen. Lake Perris Campground is more centrally located to all the tracks but it can get crowded and the max length allowed is supposedly 31 feet but you can call to verify length and see how busy they are. There is also another campground called Camp Resorts Of America around 1 1/2 miles from there you can call.

Here's the distances to the tracks from Perris Lake Campground.

Perris ................................................................... 12 miles.

Milestone .............................................................. 18 miles on the freeway.

Lake Elsinore ........................................................ 22 miles 1/2 freeway and 1/2 on a 50 mph road.

Glen Helen ............................................................ 40 miles on the freeway.

Cahuilla Creek ....................................................... 60 miles, 40 miles is on the freeway.

Lake Perris Campground and Lake info.

If you time things right Freeway traffic isn’t that terrible. From Temecula to Milestone, Glen helen in the morning you’ll be going against traffic but leaving the track if you are later than 2 , 2:30 you going to be in traffic headed back south. From Temecula to any of the others you’ll be in ordinary traffic in the evening 3 o clock on will be slow. If you are on vacation don’t let that scare you off just don’t be on the freeway in the wrong direction at the wrong time

1. Yes, would be fun
2. We live in Texas and like deep ruts and sand, but ride both
3. Noise doesn't bother me to much, just don't want to be in a bad area
4-5 We live next to a huge lake at home and never use it, lol.
6. We are doing the Supercross Future races. So we will be going to A2 after Glendale, then Oakland. We crash in Walmart parking lots a bunch when traveling, so we aren't picky, lol.

1. Ok, then the Perris area will allow you to get to more tracks more easily then pechanga or vail lake, I guarantee it.

2. Cahuilla Creek, and Glen Helen are the sandiest. Milestone, Perris, and Lake Elsinore are all similar dirt which is fairly hard. All raceways except for I think Glen Helen have more then 1 track. Lake Elsinore has around 6 tracks, including a pee wee track and a truck track, which is fun if you like to go 70 mph off moderate jumps. I raced a vintage bike on the truck track a few months ago with calvmx and had a blast. The big track at Perris has the most jumps of all the tracks.

3. There are no areas around here that are considered "dangerous" to stay, some are just nicer and/easier to get to than others, and only one of the campgrounds in the area which I have not mentioned is within 1/2 mile of a freeway, so noise shouldn't be a big issue.

4-5. Ok, but if you stay in the more central area, the 4 campgrounds near a lake are still going to be the best imo. I don't know anything about the pechanga or vail lake campgrounds so others can give you info on those but you can also get some info on all of them online.

6. There is a Walmart in Lake Elsinore that people have been camping in. I can ask them if they still allow camping if you want me to or you can call them at 951-245-5990.

PS - There will be some races at a few of these tracks in January, so you could even get in a race or two if you want. I will be at a few of them.

There is also an air museum very near Perris where you can see several old planes and the big galaxy plane used in the previous wars.

http://www.afftcmuseum.org/

If you want to jump out of a plane, you can go to lake elsinore and pay a few bucks to do that.

http://www.skydiveelsinore.com/

You can also go hot air balooning.

Thanks for all the help. For a 2 week trip, I think I'll spend the money to get an RV spot. Wife would kill me if I told her we are spending 2 weeks in a Walmart parking lot, lol. I'm towing my Jeep, so I may rent a small trailer to take the bikes to the tracks. That way we can leave the RV.

Thinking of getting an RV spot for a few days in San Francisco area too. So we can go see the city.

Well you could break it up and spend just a few days at Walmart, then move to Cosco, then Home Depot etc, lol.

Here's a U Haul just 20 minutes from both Lake Elsinore and Perris, but call and verify that they will let you use the trailer size you want with your Jeep.

Grant Langstons motorcycle shop is in Perris and Temecula Motorsports is in Murrieta in case you need any supplies etc.

There's full hook up spaces & camping at Doheny State Beach in Dana Point/San Clemente that doesn't cost ridiculous amounts (like some of the Casino RV parks do) &...you're at the beach...in SoCal. I live near by and drive to tracks all the time. Pala & Elsinore are easy commutes. Nothing like chillin at the beach and paddling out after a day at the track.

I'm jus' sayin'...

You can’t stay in Walmart parking lots in lots of California city’s. Not sure why you would want to anyway, I never do. Spoil yourself and stay by the beach. Way way better than the east side.

If you want practice for SX Futures, Milestone just finished their new Amateur SX track open to the public. It is made specially for SX future Practice.

Wherever you stay, you should make reservations asap, especially if you plan to stay at the beach, otherwise you might not get all the consecutive days you want or may have to change campsites within the park.

The Beach is very nice and below are just a few of the benefits you will enjoy by staying there.

1. Some of the most xlnt traffic jams in so cal if you take the public freeway to the tracks unless you leave to go there around 10 am and leave to come back by around 1 pm unless you go on a weekend.

2. Added time to get to the tracks due to farther distances and heavy traffic part of the way.

3. Added expense due to using more gas to drive farther distances to the tracks.

Glen Helen ............................................. 71 miles
Lake Elsinore via fwy ............................... 55 miles
Lake Elsinore via Hwy 74 ......................... 40 miles but this is a 1 lane 40 mph mountain road.
Perris ..................................................... 72 miles
Perris via Hwy 74 ..................................... 46 miles
Cahuilla Creek ......................................... 83 miles

I do hate spending money and wife hates any kind of traffic. We live in East Texas, so she would freak out with LA traffic. I'm sure we will be staying in Temecula (I party in Temecula). Just have to rent a U Haul trailer to pull behind Jeep to take bike to the tracks.
