Maybe no coincidence the better scrubs are on the Suzuki either.

OP photo looks photoshopped. I know that it isn't but that's how unnatural his abilities were.

James did not need to clear the wall jump to win Daytona 2011. In fact, he could have easily won more races and championships by simply backing down a bit. But 10 years later we’re not talking about who won Daytona, we’re talking about a spectacular maneuver and its almost inevitable conclusion.

Which begs the question: would James still hold that special place in moto history with more titles but fewer jaw-dropping moments?

He got allot of those moments... I will say yes.

If you want to compare, Dungey won more titles. But there are not many jaw dropping moments for him where people still talk about. People still talk everyday about James and that will keep on going for years.

Here is the 5712x2285 FULL RES James Stewart Daytona Wall Jump Sequence Pano.

I had to redo it from source so it's not exactly the same as the one posted previously.

If someone prints this hook a brotha up.
Hey Mr Renner, got the capability?
I’ll buy me and this gentleman one if you can.

Stew's Legacy - He literally changed the way people ride motocross. Technique and Style --- a legit game changer. Not many ex champs can say that.

The expression on everyone's face says it all about what it was like to watch that guy ride.

Monster Energy Cup 2013 - Gnarly scrub past RV. Let’s not forget that big quad he was hitting too. RV tried and crashed out. That was a exciting race to watch

He didn't win Daytona in 2011.

Had James backed it down, he wouldn't be JS7.

Stew was truly transcendent, I don’t believe we will ever see another rider of His caliber again...

Curious what his career would have been like if he were not on those pos (at that time) Yamaha bikes that nobody could seem to get a handle on? Most of his most violent crashes were on that bike and until recently nobody liked riding them.

Philosophical moto discussion time. I personally hold James in possibly the highest regard of any racer I’ve seen because of all the times he made my jaw drop with things like the wall jump.

But from a legend to be remembered standpoint is it better to be the guy who is a legend because of all the wins and titles like RC and MC or the guy who influenced a whole generation of racers stylistically while also having a very successful but possibly underachieving results wise career?

I wonder if james will be forgotten as time goes on since he doesn’t have the records RC has.

As an example, I’m too young to really understand why people hold JMB in such high regard. He was a champion but a ton of people won more. He even got his ass kicked by Bradshaw in 92 (who didn’t even win the title). I’ve watched old videos and I can kind of understand that he was better than his competition technique wise but I’ve grown up watching racers who are more evolved than him. Come to think of it Bradshaw is another guy who has the mystique but didn’t win a lot.

I have to think generations later though kids will be able to watch the wall jump video and understand how insane that was but maybe not. Maybe it will just look like an old racer who isn’t quite as good as who they watch normally
This is a moto site. Good luck getting people to discuss abstract thoughts without being paralyzed/ detoured by their personal bias (either way it swings) lol.

That said, I think you’re right. He won’t be remembered AS WELL as if he got all the titles, but due to him being so jaw dropping otherwise, he will always be remembered. Still better than most.

I feel privileged to grow up seeing him from a rookie, RC, CR, and the end of MC’s career. I’m sure most people feel similar, but damn I grew up in a fantastic era of Moto.

I’d take the 2000’s back anytime though.
