The only thing that the seven can try is to grab both holeshots and lead every lap of the race. He didn’t do that this weekend, but he came close despite an AMA penalty that forced him to start on the outside in the first moto.

Even though he had the fastest practice time, he did not make it to the gate to line up in the time allowed. He and one other rider were then put to the back of the line for the last gate picks.

Some kind of AMA rule change where both bike and rider have to go to the gate together...from RacerX post race show.

This rule is not something that the AMA came up with. The FIM at the GP's has had this rule in place for some time. Why the AMA adopted it, I don't know.

Same reason thy adopted the dumb no-lead rue. They had painted themselves into a corner and sought the help of FIM, and the help came with large strings attached.
