After that amazing ride last night, what do you guys think the chance of Honda keeping him on for Indianapolis or even the rest of the east coast is?

I don't know, but I don't think i'd be getting a hard on thinking he's good for the rest of the year in SX when he's a 2 time national champ who got a start and well at Daytona... Dude hasn't put together more than 4 or 5 SX races in the lites... He should be ready for outdoors, especially after they put him west coast for it and simultaneously jacked Craig.

Why would he do all that testing for just one race? I know Dungey doesn't want him there haha

What a race! As long as he stays in the top 10 in points from this race, for me he earns that fill in ride. Honda would invest more in their future, nobody wins 2 national titles by luck. Nothing to lose, exactly like when they tried Canard and Seely. They have a bike to continuously learn and show as well, vs. the old 250. Martin is out of contention in the 250 sx championship, mainly due to racing incidents and bad starts. Same as the previous years, which makes me think he could well do like Baggett, who finished 4th in SX in his rookie season. I would not be surprised to see Martin finishing 3rd outdoors too if he has the opportunity. 2nd at Daytona is a similar start as Dungey, Roczen, Musquin or Canard, with a bang.

So how do you feel on the 450? Do you have any idea at all how you will do?
I feel pretty good on it, but I’ve only ridden it about five times. It’s just a fun one-off deal. I was actually pretty bummed I was going to miss Daytona, so getting this chance is pretty bad ass. I have to thank Honda for that opportunity. It’s just going to be fun. So I just want to mix it up with the front-runners and see what I’ve got.

Take that for what it's worth.

because he will race the very same bike next year? meaning he'll start testing it in 6 months time anyways

It would be best for his stock, if he just walked away on that note and got ready for outdoors. If your only result is a 2.......you have some some serious negotiation power come fall.

Daytona is a big event for Honda, they are the title sponsor. They needed 2 bikes racing. It was a great story for them to talk about and worked out well with the podium finish.

He had a good ride, last night. I just don't see him even close, to a top 5 on a regular SX track.

That's exactly what I was thinking last night. If this was a conventional SX race I doubt he finishes anywhere near the podium IMO.

I don't think anyone thought the result would be this good. Honda would be silly not to put him back on it for a few more races.

he made the bike look good? You know Kenny beat everyone on it too before he got injured right?

The rest of the SX's aren't Daytona style... it's amazing how much better he does at Daytona (Outdoor) than anywhere else

I agree, Daytona is a one off event, and Martin has never been a great Supercross rider. I wonder what will happen when outdoors roll around. Roczen still has a long road ahead of him with recovery. I doubt he will be ready to go with the start of the outdoors. I guess we will see as time goes by, but I can't imagine Honda is not going to want someone on that bike.

....about the same as his chances of getting second at Daytona SX!

That's what they do....they did it with Seely.

It is amazing the difference of treatment on this board regarding 2 450 newcomers: Webb finishes 2nd and is considered as God's child and next MC, while Martin has 2 national titles, proved some sx (and bad starts) skills, finish 2nd at the biggest race of the year in 450 after the Mxdn, then it is like "well yeah it is not that bad". How many will be butt hurt again when Martin run down Webb again during the Nationals?

Slim to none. It's a business. The only reason he rode in the first place is west coast wasn't going great and KROC was out and it's a Honda event.

Well 2 of those things you mention are still in play, and as for the 3rd...the Honda race team (not the promoter) probably thinks EVERY SX is a "Honda event." Also, I doubt Honda would mind having some more good exposure. I hope he continues on the 450.

ROFL No they don't. As evident they didn't fill KROC's ride and said they weren't going to.

J-mart can ride SX, we've seen him pass Musquin. His qualifying times are usually very good. For him, he just needs a start or a least to be in the mix from the beginning, then he's a completely different rider. He was faster than CC in off season testing.

Malcolm never had a 450 deal in place, he had a 250 Supercrss-only contract for one year.

That's what I was getting at. The JMart I saw last night is not the regular SX JMart he was outstanding, if Eli would have started 5th JMart would have won last night.

And you will not see Roczen before A1 2018
