JGR!

Edited Date/Time 3/5/2014 9:05am
We'll in Charlotte for business. I looked up JGR MX and saw they were 5 miles from my hotel. Called the shop yesterday and told them I was a fan and just wanted to check the shop out. To my surprise they said come on by. Went there today and got a nice tour from Grant's mechanic Ben. I sat there and drooled over JG's race bike for 20 minutes asking every question I could come up with. I even told him to stop me of I was bugging him, but he said it was cool. I'm not from SoCal so this was different for me and just thought it was super cool for them to be open to the whole thing. Anyways just pumped and thought I'd share. Even got a few throw away goodies!

That would be really cool to tour some of the teams shops and see how the work during the week goes down.

Yeah, wasn't a whole lot going on as his bike was ready for Daytona. Still a bitching experience though!!!

That is so cool. I wish I could take my dad to something like that. He would be thrilled!

Not much MX anymore, that's where all my broken bones have come from. I'm a woods rider, ride in fincastle, eagle rock, rivers edge type places. Would love to ride a decent local outdoor style track? How bout yourself?

Awesome! And welcome to town!

I live across the street from JGR but still haven't stopped by the shop. I heard the NASCAR Nationwide team moved into the same building as MX. I need to get my butt over there one day to check it out.

From what I was told they are in the same business park. Not the same building. Stones throw away.

Was listening to an interview with Joe Gibbs a while ago. He said when they opened the race shop they had between 8 and 10 employees .... now he says they have .... between all the race teams around 400.

To have a "come on by" relationship (obviously timing is everything) with a walk up fan speaks volumes to not only the owner but the people he brings into the fold. Remember the mindset of a business starts at the top.

Congrats to JGR for "getting it" glad you had the visit we all wish we could fall into. Mad props.

Same complex, maybe. I went by the MX shop a few years and it was already pretty snug in there. The Nationwide race shop, on the other hand, was huge.

They moved their shop from a couple years ago. It's probably a little bigger than the other one you were in GB. I was there last week hanging out. Some cool cats in that place.

Sweet story. That's awesome they were able to receive a call and just invite you on down! I'd jump at the chance to tour JGR or any other MX teams (KTM, Kawi, Yosh, etc)

This is the type of thing all "teams" should do, from athletic teams to race teams. What an awesome way to build a fan base!

I'm in the same boat as you. I got hurt and realized that I should hang up the boots.Laughing because Im self employed. I still take my son (Cameron Lee) riding to all the MX tracks though and I have a few kids that I train on the weekends. Two of them are VCHSS Champions in super mini and Mini A. and one finished 3rd overall in superminis in the GNCCs.
If you want a nice place to ride woods you should come down to Phelps farm. Its in Hardy and they have like 800 acres of trails and loops. Their kids race VCHSS and of allot of the woods guys go there to ride.
Let me know and I can get you directions to the farm.

Sounds like a little of their Nascar heritage showing through. One of the things that helps make Nascar so popular is how much they cater to and create access for the fans.
