in re James Stewart:

"Nobody had ever done this sort of thing," said Stewart, who also is in the field. "As kids, this is how we raced. The concept is cool. It's a lot shorter, so it's good for those of us with short attention spans."

Hahaha James has a sense of humor.

Doubt that guy will do too well. He's number 199, so he must not be THAT fast.

Wishful thinking but not happening. I agree about it being fun to watch though.

They're custom made. Travis puts his balls in the gap instead of a bar pat in order to keep the front tire on the ground

Travis Pastrana to Compete in Red Bull Global Rallycross and Red Bull Straight Rhythm

Action Sports Icon Returns to Motocross after Five-Year Hiatus while continuing his Four-Wheel Racing career

SANTA MONICA, CA (September 10, 2014) – Over the next four weeks, Travis Pastrana will remind the world that he is the action sports world’s leading renaissance man. Pastrana is set to compete in both Red Bull Global Rallycross, Sept. 19-21 at the Port of Los Angeles in San Pedro, and two weeks later, in the inaugural Red Bull Straight Rhythm motocross event, Oct. 4 at Auto Club Raceway in Pomona.

“Either of these events are enough to get me excited, but the notion of taking them both on, just weeks apart, is exactly the kind of challenge I salivate over,” said Pastrana. “I love racing Rallycross, and I’m really pumped up for the totally new format of Red Bull Straight Rhythm.”

At Red Bull Global Rallycross, the 10-year rally car veteran will race a 600hp Vermont SportsCar-prepared 2014 Subaru WRX STI as a guest entry by Subaru Rally Team USA, which Pastrana drives for in the Rally America Championship series. This will be the second time Pastrana has raced in Red Bull Global Rallycross this year, after participating in the second race of the series in Austin in June.

On the two-wheel side of the equation, Pastrana’s participation in Red Bull Straight Rhythm will mark the first motocross event he has competed in since taking a five-year hiatus from the sport to focus on four-wheel racing.

“Most people who know me know that it’s really tough for me to turn my back on a new challenge, and when I heard about the new head-to-head format of Red Bull Straight Rhythm, I instantly felt that tug on my heart to get into the mix,” said Pastrana. “A one-of-a-kind format demands a one-of-a-kind machine, and my team and I are bringing some seriously heavy artillery to the party in Pomona.”

The buzz around Pastrana’s return came when he released a video on his Instagram account featuring a 500-cc two-stroke bike he had specifically built to race at Red Bull Straight Rhythm. While traditional supercross races allow for only 250cc and 450cc classes, this event instead has a 250cc class and an open class. When Pastrana got wind of the freedom from traditional engine size restraints in the open class, he decided to build the mammoth bike.

More information and tickets to Red Bull Straight Rhythm can be found at www.redbull.com/straightrhythm. Additional information on Red Bull Rallycross can be found www.redbullGlobalRallycross.com.

About Red Bull Straight Rhythm
Red Bull Straight Rhythm is an evolution of the sport of supercross, featuring a 1/2 mile-long, “unwound" track, isolating the whoops, triples, doubles, table tops and step on/offs, challenging riders to focus exclusively on reading the terrain directly in front of them. A field of 32 riders will compete against each other in a head-to-head, best-of-three bracket format. The inaugural event will be held at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona and will air on NBC in 2014 as part of the Red Bull Signature Series, a collection of the most progressive action sports events in the world. For more information, please visit www.redbullsignatureseries.com.

About Red Bull Global Rallycross
Designed to produce the fastest and most exciting racing in motorsports, Red Bull Global Rallycross pits small production-based cars against each other in door-to-door racing featuring dirt, asphalt, and table-top jumps. With enhanced engineering and safety features, the cars produce 600 horsepower and can accelerate from 0-60 miles per hour in less than two seconds, and can also withstand 70-foot jumps and other vehicle contact. I'm guessing Pastrana will be super fast in a practice session then try to do a backflip off one of the wall jumps and just wreck himself out of the entire event.

So it will be on NBC in 2014 as part of the Signature Series of events we've seen before. Set for Saturday October 4th, but wonder if we'll see Live coverage or aired at a later date I'd guess?

I would love nothing more that to see TP win this event. However...

the name of this game will likely be scrubbing and TP has been out of the sport long enough that scrubbing over jumps is not his specialty as much as the younger generation.

No need to corner so pull those bars up high for moving around. I'd say set up is going to bring out some interesting ideas (500's!!) and testing/set up will play into the finals.

Random speculation about TP performance will reach epic levels.

You don't scrub through a straight rhythem as much as you do over a big tripple or finish line jump. I'm not sure scrubbing is even going to help on a track like this. A tall guy, like Travis, will have an advantage in a race like this, especially through the whoops and smaller jumps.

So can a guy run a 250cc two-stroke in the 250 class? Because that would be epic to see Stewart run both classes, one on a 450 and one on the rm250 (courtesy of Pastrana because I'm sure he has one laying around).

Scrubbing will work.. but if you grab a handfull and Huck 6 jumps... The scrubbing becomes moot.

I like how you think. The big Zook 5 should need no scrubbing.

Well I guess this is why we won't see RV at this race!Laughing oh yea, and his bad knee.Whistling

TP quote:

"Every rider who has a little bit of flair loves this idea," Pastrana said. "Riders who win races more on endurance, this isn't really their event. This is about flair and going for it. It's a one-lap deal. It's completely different. It's a 100-meter dash as opposed to a marathon."
