I'd say one early possibility should go to Villopoto, based on previous success at the event, but beyond that...Alessi (finally)? Short? Ferry?

Do you pick a guy like Stewart who it looks like won't see a National track this summer?

How about in the Lites? Dungey? Stroupe? Canard? Weimer?

The race within a race this summer should be interesting.

Holding Stewart off to the side somewhere, I'd think something along the lines of RV, Alessi and Dungey, but there's a long summer of real perfromances coming up.

As things stand right now I'd pick

Poto MX1
Dungey MX2
Alessi MX3 (based on the way he rode the nationals last year)

I really believe there are enough guys that we could make at least two different teams that could win, possibly even three teams!

Stewart, Grant, Stroupe, Canard, Izzi, Short, Ferry, Millsaps, Lawrence, Hepler, Hill, Weimer, Tedesco, Windham, the list is long...

Guy B., my two cents:

Why not pick the three best riders period, SX and/or MX? Stewart would be ready, and I imagine the fans in Italy would love to see him. Add whoever is winning the 450 (RV? Alessi? Short? Tedesco? Ferry?) at the end of July, and then use the 250 pick to either give the 450 runner-up a shot, or if it's a clear-cut 250 leader from the U.S., like Dungey or Canard or Weimer or Stroupe....

Like FTE said, lots of racing yet to come to decide.

To avoid all the my guy is better than your guy drama.

It should default to whichever American is leading the 450cc class and whichever American is leading the 250cc class.

With that being said, JBS has earned the right of refusal if he does or does not want to go, if not, then give it to the second in points American.

Are we going this year? Seems the AMA's commitment waxes and wanes from year to year. Shocked

Villopoto should go. Hepler if healthy (I know, I know), and Alessi.

Best picks at this point:

MX1 Villopoto
MX2 Dungey
MX3 Alessi

Since JS rides "supercross only" he can be picked for the Supercross des Nations team.

I definitely think Stewart is a go if that's in his plans regardless of whether or how many outdoor races he does, but the year also has the feel of one of those "changing of the guard" transitions.

Kinda hard to imagine you would leave JS off of the team.

hard to argue with that. I don't see support for JBS if he sits out the nationals even if he is up to speed. Ferry would be right up there also IMO.

If it was a SXon, sure I'd say James, but obviously someone in that camp doesn't want to do motocross hence the MXon. So I'd vote to send 3 motocross riders.

Disclaimer: This opinion has nothing to do with James' color, religion, shoe size, choice of cars, women, sports drink etc... solely the opinion that we should send motocross riders!

Villopoto, Alessi and Short or Dungey.

Zach Osborne may be one to consider depending on how his series goes this year.

This isn't a reward for riding the outdoors. It's a matter of sending the best we have. If someone that hasn't been racing is still better than the ones that have, then we need to send them if they're willing to go.

So then RC and Stafan Everts should come out to race too?

Honestly, even without Stewart we would still have a team that is hands down the favorite to win. Stewart hasn't exactly set the world on fire at the MXDN's either.

I think it's time for Alessi and some other guys.

send the best we got period! lets not chance it just because some of the riders didnt complete this summer. i always thought it was a race to gather the best three from every country, not the three best from a particular series.
