Copy/paste from FIM email..... TLDR: Italy DQ'd because Cervellin ran illegal fuel, which means Great Britain are on the podium!! Woohoo

During the 2018 Motocross of Nations in Red Bud (United States) on 6-7.10.2018 (IMN 210/01), fuel
samples were taken to be tested in accordance with the 2018-1 FIM Technical Rules Motocross (Art.63.04
and 63.05) from the following motorcycles:
 Mr BARCIA #27 (United States)
 Mr VAN HOREBEEK #12 (Belgium)
 Mr CERVELLIN #20 (Italy)
 Mr TOMAC #25 (United States)
 Mr TIXIER #3 (France)
 Mr PLESSINGER #26 (United States)
 Mr LAWRENCE #17 (Australia)
 Mr CAIROLI #19 (Italy)

Among the aforementioned riders, the fuel tests of No. 20 Michele CERVELLIN attested non conformity
with the FIM fuel specifications provided for in Art. 63.01.2 of the 2018-1 FIM Technical Rules Motocross,
regarding the properties for unleaded fuel.
On this basis, the FIM Race Direction of the above-mentioned 2018 Motocross of Nations has decided to
impose upon Mr CERVELLIN's team (team Italy) a disqualification from the entire event, in accordance
with Art. 63.05.13 of the 2018-1 Technical Rules Motocross.
No appeal against the decision of the FIM Race Direction has been lodged before the International
Disciplinary Court (CDI) within the set deadline. As a consequence, the decision of the Race Direction is
final.
The final results of the 2018 Motocross of Nations have been updated accordingly.

Bummer!!!

Interesting that they decided to test all of team USA and two from Italy while the rest were all from separate countries.

Funny how all 3 Americans were tested
Well it wasn't due to their result that's for sure . Maybe they were running 87 octane pump fuel from the corner gas station.

What I got out of this is that the FIM’s fuel testing is even slower than WADA’s drug testing.

Yeah. Why don't they just test the fuel used by all 9 riders on the podium (or something along those lines)? Disclaimer: I have absolutely no idea regarding the logistics of securing enough proper samples from enough riders to ensure that all the podium riders (whom are only known after the final race is completed, obviously) fuel is ready for analysis.

Although, that would obviously open the doors wide open for Johnny Rainbow and whoever else to run whatever they wish as they will never be podium-contenders...

the Fim is stupid a bunch of bureacrats. dq a team 5 months after the race? team GB now in the podium? who cares they didnt get to stand on it and enjoy their achievement.

They are making millions with that race and the teams and riders pay for the honour to be there yeah right!

Man, that FIM outfit is really on the cutting edge of technology and state of the art rules enforcement aren't they? They move at the speed of...oh never mind. Cool

Pump gas doesn't pass in general - too highly oxygenated. And even still - the BEST fuel that would be illegal you could run that would make it 35 minutes on the tank capacities we have - would maybe be worth .5 hp over what is legal.
Why bother.

The lead content requirement is so low that traces of it will trip the test - and those traces aren't high enough to be useful

It's like anything else - extensive rules detract from the sport. Baja trophy truck racing has a 1 page rulebook.
Most of it safety

There are a lot of different winners each year there - and the racing is better than the highly limited classes IMHO

what a shitshow, glad this sport is a cult, otherwise it'd be pretty embarrassing with this garbage.

The whole US team aside, how does testing a few ('at random') make it fair. The GB team get promoted, but whats to say they weren't using the same fuel as italy?

About the expected response, much like drug testing, it’s either a conspiracy or pointless.
Does anyone with any knowledge know how they chose who’s fuel to sample?

I'm sure Broc would appreciate them implementing a FIFO approach to the announcement of punishments

Shame for Italy. In most of these cases it's the slightest discrepancy. Highly unlikely that there was any intention to use illegal fuel. I know a number of guys were disqualified from Assen GP for the same thing. Team GB 3rd but it doesn't feel like a podium. It's cool that we get to run 7, 8, 9 again next year. But we didn't stand on the podium on the day so it doesn't mean as much. I suppose the record will show back to back podiums which is nice

I was thinking this, don't think most Brits want a podium this way.

It’s just too bad he isn’t barred from racing for the next 37 months while they figure out what doping oil refinery he was in cahoots with.
