If USA want to win the MXON again they need to get some guys racing MXGP full time.

Its hardly surprising they keep coming up short, MXGP standard keeps getting stronger & USA are holding their top riders back in a domestic series.

USA need to send a few to MXGP, get them located in Belgium/Holland for decent periods of testing & learn out to ride some proper MX tracks.

Hell if USA want any chance at MXON glory next year your going to need some decent testing in proper sand!

Why dont the mxgp guys dominate when they come over here, which quite a few do, vs supposedly inferior talent and easier tracks? Why did Covington do terrible last year at mxon when he gets top 2-3s in the MXGPs? Something is going on with our team/luck/effort/curse idk what the hell it is but I wanna find out. How do you explain Thomas Covington doing bad last year on a European track? Why does Ferrandis only have 2 mx wins in the us? I think more factors are involved than you guys bullet points point out and your not looking at it the other way around like this either how they dont ever dominate when they come over here and race the full series. Why is that?

Lets see how Covington does next year when he comes over thatll show a lot. But Ferrandis already did and hes won what 2 races in 2 years? Mxgp riders can ride all tracks all conditions and are way faster tho right? Covington is a top 2-3 mx2 rider so he should run away with it next year then just like Ferrandis did right? Wait... he didnt? Hmmmm well its not so simple then like you guys say. Gjaser tried MEC too which has no woops n got his ass beat then went over the bars. Its not so simple. Im not talking down on anyone Im just pointing out this weird paradox. I dont get it.

Covington was on a 450 (for the first time, as far was I know). Covington tore his ACL. Give the guy a break.

Covington has ridden in sand A LOT and actually won a moto at Assen. I think Covington would have been better than Plessinger on this year's team. No disrespect to Plessinger, but Covington was better prepared to mix it up with Prado and Lawrence (aka "fast guys").

Good chance they'll send Covington next year. But the 450 guys are doomed.

This gave me a thought, though. KRoc has sustained some serious injuries from riding supercross. To an (obviously) lesser extent, so have most of our other riders. They've been banged up and broken so many times that we tend to take it for granted. Mostly riding SX.

And I love watching SX, don't get me wrong. But perhaps the high injury count AMA riders carry VS GP riders is a legitimate handicap. Just a thought.

Your argument ain't so bad, but convington tore his ACL at the mxon and raced anyways. Give the man some respect.

The USA Factory Teams should employ 1 Supercross only rider and 1 Motocross only rider for 250/450. They are completely different sports now and should have specialists for each discipline. You can't half ass Motocross at the World level any longer and expect to win.

What? It's not like USA gains anything more than bragging rights from winning the MXON. Do people really think things will be changed just so USA riders can win the MXON?

the simple fact is that the USA's riders money comes mostly from Supercross, and thats why they spend october through to may riding it, no one is going to give up their big pay check to spend 6 months riding for a race that pays to purse money, or bonus money,

some riders rise for the MXdN . (townley was one who did it alot) the US riders since RV and RD's last win have not done that, i think maybe the team structure has something to do with it, look at France, their riders have risen beyond their form from the year to excel when needed,

The question is how do you explain that EVERY AMA rider got spanked if its just bad luck for the US team?

I think that 2015, 2016 and 2017 USGP's proved that US riders can compete and beat GP riders. MXoN has also proved that GP riders can beat US riders. So what's your point here OP?

Why they should work on mx more? Forget sx paycheck.. work on your mx level. Because your national ama races aint worth shit now.. their level is a joke compared with the mxgp guys. If the usa has a bit of pride left. They must fight back to bang bars.. now they are getting their ass kicked.
hello big paycheck.. goodbye to the mx rider..

So if US MX is such a joke why are you signed up and hanging out on a US based MX forum? Isn't there a European based site for all of you fast keyboard warriors?

You guys act like a rider/team main focus is winning the MXdN. Championship first MXdN second.

yeaaaaaaaa ....

rj hampshire 1/1 spanked mx2 class at jacksonville 2017

you guys are so far out of touch with reality when you think the MXoN determines the top guys or the top series.

every time the GP's are held in the US... an AMA guy wins.

JOSH GRANT for christ sakes 1/1 2015 at glen helen.

If it wasnt already obvious, americans could give a fuck less about the MXoN... hence tomac not even attending last year..

The MXoN is hands down the most important race of the year to every motocross enthusiast in the world including tens of thousands of americans. Your not one of them. We get it.

The U.S.A. will win the MXoN again at some point. People have all kinds of theories as to why the yanks have been losing, but the simple fact of the matter is that sometimes you're not always the best. In the 80s and 90s and early to mid 2000s, American riders dominated the mx scene. A lof of people are blaming the sx series, but I think it extends beyond that into the mx series as well. The outdoor tracks are groomed, they don't have enough variety in either soil types or the terrain itself. The outdoor tracks now have big sx style jumps, etc. The series needs a change in venues, and tracks. Until that happens, expect the yanks to be playing catch up the GP riders who are used to all different types of conditions, terrain, etc.

The closest they had was mxtrax but the mods chased anyone off who said anything remotely negative about the GPs.

Your missing my point a bit. Covington is good, Im not attacking him or taking anything away from him at all Im trying to make a response to all the people saying Americans cant ride anything but perfect tracks and the talent is a huge drop off. My point is that if that were true then why when we get a lot of very good gp riders that come here dont they dominate on our “easy” tracks or with this drop off in talent. Roczen was looking like he may before the injury, but Eli in 15’ was insane so who knows what would have happened if neither had major injuries.
