I was thinking of trading my 18 for a new 20 because all my parts, FMF Ti system, etc.. fit the 20 with no issues.
But I don't know if they will fit the 21 so I'll lose a lot on my parts and will need to sell them, and also buy new ones again.

I don't care about electric start.

Will they change the engine again? Suspension, etc?
I mean, isn't the 20 engine a new one? Doesn't make sense to change again for 21.

The 20 will get a big hit in value due to the 21 being an "all new" machine?

All I know is electric start and hydraulic clutch which will be sweet. I wonder if they make some changes to the engine to bring back low and mid range since they turned it in to a top end monster.

New frame and plastics as well. Basically like the 19-20 450.

How bad is the low and mid compared to my 18?
Will my FMF Ti full system help the low / mid on the 20?

@280driver
Not sure how better the frame will be. Plastics don't make a difference (:
Maybe I'll just pull the trigger on the 20 and wait for the 21\22 and upgrade again.

I feel like if I keep my 18 I'll lose a lot in value next year compared to the offer I have now.
Also all my parts will fit the 20.

Hope I'll feel the difference of the KYB compared to my Showa SFF, and also the additional 4 HP.

Agreed. The ‘20 chassis is great and plastics are subjective. Get the ‘20 for a good price.

You'll notice the suspension. 100%. I switched to yamaha for KYB. I hated the SFF stuff.

Ya sure that your fmf sistem fits ‘20?
New engine.. i dont know if it fits.
Anyway, i’d wait for 2021.
You will notice difference with the kyb forks. The kyb shock is giving my friends some problems.
I have a 19 actually. I didnt like the engine of the 2020 model.
I hope we will get back our low-mid range power.
If not, i’m 99% switching to suzuki.

I have had multiple 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020s. There is no question that the 2020 has a WAY better engine. The suspension is also much better. We have a few 450s too. We keep the bike tip top on maintenance and even the full build race engine fires on the 2nd or 3rd kick, hot or cold. Only starting issues we have had was dead battery on the 450s lol. push button is nice and will cost you more. Also I believe the kick start bike will really drop the resale value once the E-start bike hits the dealerships. Hope they don't change the 2021 engine much, cause if you know how to ride, that engine is so fast.

According to the part number on FMF site, seems like they use the exact same parts.
The engine is new from the inside. The outside is basically the same.

What issues did they have with the KYB?

The single sided spring fork wasn't very good. Now it has the same forks that are on the YZ250f

I just got quoted $6400 for a 2020. I might bite on that. The 2021 will be better but I don’t want to wait.

You can do better than 6400. Call delmarva powersports, tri county, and moto member. Youll have to drive a ways but potentially 500+ less from those dealers.

Physically fitting and designed for are two different things.

If the exhaust system was never designed for the 2020 motor you could be hurting performance, in theory.

Just putting an exhaust on the bike isn't going to provide much gain. Send your ECU to Twisted Development and get it tuned. Better bang for your buck.

Why would they sell the same pipe for the 2020?

I checked both bikes diagrams and the pipes are 98% the same. The muffler is 30mm shorter.
The FMF's are the same.

@theycallmeebryan

I already have a full system on my 18 so I'll just move it to the new bike.

i heard mitch is upset with kawi over the design of the motor..im guessing they asked for his opinion on design and then did something different? could be a rumor but thats what i heard

If you are worried about “resale value” a Kawasaki kx250f isn’t for you. Honda and KTM hold value. Kawasaki and Suzuki tank instantly.

imo get the 2020 and ride the hell out of it. 2021 will be a learning year anyways.

Mitch said they didn’t have enough time to do the R&D needed to develop parts and get them produced in time/quantity for SX. They are doing all if that now and will be switching to the ‘20 motor outdoors. There are no issues.

Yeah i can get it. As i already said above the ‘2020 motor sucks and is a shit base if you want to work on it. The 17-19 motor was a step above.

‘20 motor doesn’t suck. Faster guys really like it as it makes a ton more power up top. ‘19 is a bit better down low which is good if you like to lug the bike. Both good motors, just different.

Will my FMF Ti system make the low end better on the '20?

Are you totally certain kawie is gonna make the '21 like the 450? It could be similar to what Yamaha did with the 2010 thru '13 yz250f and what it is now. It will be the same thing until the next major generation upgrade kind of like the 2014 yz250f n 450f finally became the same generation.

It's basically the same looking bike since '17 so the '21 should be the next generation with e start and hydraulic clutch, etc.. Same as the 450.
