Purposely staying back to eat some of the worst roost in the entire series seems logical...

He hung back to avoid having bottles and other debris thrown at him then passed Vromans late in the race .

Eli doesnt come off as arrogant so i doubt it.

Justin cooper might do that since he says the perfect rider includes his own outright speed

Best in America. Not the best in the world. This aint the '80's. Track prep looks better this year in US nats though..Theres only 5-6 guys can get on the podium, so its no biggie coming from a 12th place start.

Actually Eli has "unbelievable" endurance towards the end of races. Much better than the rest..He reminds me of Armstrong the way he can just blow by people at the end of a race..Truly an incredible athlete.

he started in 17th pretty damn impressive race.

By the time he retires he may have made more passes than any other professional MX racer ever.

|

Could you imagine being that confident in your ability, speed and endurance that you purposely throw the start of the race just to make it more interesting by blowing through the pack?

Me neither. But damn, your hunter's mentality statements almost make it fathomable.

You act as if having 5-6 riders who can get on the podium is a bad thing. Currently the top of the US nationals are as stacked as any other motocross series and I don’t think that’s debatable. Sure starting outside the top ten isn’t a huge deal but to have to pass the current top five or so riders in the US is no easy feat.

Your comments comparing Tomac to Armstrong seem a whole lot more like an accusation than a compliment.

considering eli frequently gets bad starts i gonna say no chance. too much risk being that far back and risking a crash from other riders.

|

7/29/2019 5:57 PM

......NO!

|

I think his starts would be better if he actually drove it into the first turn fully committed. It seems like he backs off a bit if he isn’t towards the front, maybe not wanting to risk going down. It is better to have say a 15th place start then it would be go down and have to make his way up from the very back. Whatever he is doing it’s given him a 50 point gap so I’d venture to guess he is pretty comfortable with the way his starts have been. It sure makes for exciting racing!

I watched it, it was a slaughter, a bloodbath.

He actually come from 17th, not 12th.

Exactly, he'd rather be in the position of hunter than prey.

No way. He is a professional who is paid to win, and he'll get the best start he can, every time. I just think he's not a great starter. He can pass lots of riders because he's damn fast and he has to!

there were 15 other spots he could of started in front of him that would have still let him be the hunter.

Yes? What makes it crazy to ask? Apparently you aren’t familiar with Unadilla 2002 125 class. 😉
