I would say that unless you have had previous experience on a 2 smoker, I'm not sure this is the best move for you. A YZ250 is an awesome bike but I wouldn't recommend one for a person who doesn't have any experience on a 2 stroke. The bike you have now is a great bike. Enjoy!

Yeah, trying to figure out what to do with all that added power might really suck... : ) !

Go with the smoker! But be warned, it may cause unusual pains in the face and cheek area from smiling too much! TongueWoohooSillyWhistling

if you use the clutch to apply power independent of where the throttle is then the 2 str swap will be ok.

if you are riding the response of the 4str by throttle only and never using clutch then this method will get you in trouble on the 2str.

No. I did it. Biggest waste of time and money ever. Keep the 250f and thank me later.

Everyone is different, why don't you just see if you can try someone's at the track?

I have big bike 2 stroke experience with a RM125 when I first got off an 85 13 years ago. No more than a year later I got a 250f though and never looked back. Fast forward 12 years after ditching the 2 stroke and I bought a kx250 to compliment my 250f for fun at the track. I rode it for the first time last weekend and holy moly is that bike fun! It also sounds wicked which truly does have me grinning ear to ear on the track for now.

Make no mistake, a 250 two stroke is fast and when I first got on the bike and was revving it up before getting on the track I did get that "uh-oh, I may have bitten off more than I can chew" feeling but once I got on the track that feeling quickly went away and the bike was a total blast to ride!

I fell down and twisted the front end on my 250f last weekend so I will happily just be riding the smoker this weekend.

Check with the tracks you ride at and the rules of any series you plan on racing, because not all places will let a 250 2 stroke race with the 250f class. You may have to race the 450 class at some places...

You will become a better rider on the smoker. I ride mine much more then my 450. Every time i swing a leg over my fourfiddy i am faster and carry more momentum the ever before, every time!

I had 2 yz 250fs and went to a YZ 250 when I was 17. Loved it, perfect step before a 4filthy

Its like do I want to fly in a jet or a prop airplane? I guess it depends on your objective. To me the answer is YES, stay with 4-stroke.

Join the 2stroke revolution brother.

Mix gas & haul ass just as your dad likely did in his hey-day.

Leave the 4 strokes for applications such as lawn tractors and boats.

Reclaim that aggressive riding style that only a 2stroke can nurture.

Rebuilds are cheaper, and you can do them easier yourself.

Bikes are lighter.

Premix rules.

if your serious about being your best stay on the valve bouncer , as cool as 2 strokes are 99 % of riders go better on four strokes its as simple as that ,

Hallelujah!!! Amen to that. Finally the fundamental difference between 2 strokes has been brought to light, and in a clear and consice manner I might add. The only thing I would add is the vice versa is also true, you can't ride a 2 stroke like a 4 stroke or a 4 stroke like a 2 stroke.

Do you think you can handle all that power of a 2 stroke? You'll probably just loop out all the time.

I think it would be a good move. The new YZ250's have boat loads of torque and don't "hit" as hard as the older bikes. Perfect for someone coming off of a 4t.

Why buy an El Camino when you already have a Cadillac?!
Because the El Camino is faster.

You have to be a better rider.
I grew up in them I still have them, but the 4 strokes are an upgrade you can't get with your 2 stroke to carry as consistant fast lap times...unless you are that better rider.
That's not everything, but if you want to measure success in this summer or fall series - Stick with the F. However if you want to be that better rider down the road, or your old don't give a rats ass about running to the top in a series or if you cant/dont want to buy a new bike every two years and just want to braap and make some new lines then by all means mix up some fuel and mix it up!

In other words they are more like a 4-stroke...

yes, lets do that, Surratt turned a 2:10:095 in the First Moto,1 of the first of day... 250 prosport (4 stroke)

Surratt turned a 2:15:314, his best lap in moto 2 of 250 prosport on a 4 stroke

THE FMF 2 STROKE Race Was (2) Motos BEFORE THE FINAL (250) four stroke moto...

So lets see here, within one hour both the 250 prosport second moto & The FMF 2stroke race took place

Surratt Moto Two Prosport 250 class Yamaha 250f best laptime 2:15:314

Surratt Two Stroke Race Yamaha YZ250 best laptime 2:13:378

So yeah, the 2 stroke seemed to be faster by 2 seconds a lap when raced within a hour of each other
(similar track conditions)...
