So basically the question is coming up if a rider can in fact change there CAREER Number? Is there a ruling anywhere saying they can or can not do it? Or maybe if the rider earns another top 10 can they switch it? or can they use there earned national number? I am in need of a official source that answers any of these. Thanks.

The only case I can think of is James Stewart changing from 259 to 7. He won the 125 MX title in 2002 but did not pick a single digit for the next year and stayed with 259 as his career # through 2005. He did change to #7 for 2006 and had not won a title the previous year so his past titles must have enabled him to change permanent numbers and take the single digit.

I just remembered Sebastien Tortelli did it also. He was #13 as a career number on Honda but after a few years of injury he wanted away from the "unlucky" 13 and switched to #103 when he went to Suzuki.

A similar thing happened with Brian Swink but it was before the permanent/career # system. He was #13 and was having a lousy year on MotoXXX and changed over to 103 to finish that season off.

What if (say Baggys case) you earn the right to pick a "career number" (he chose 12) but then go on to win a title, so you are now eligible to choose an available single digit #, right?

I believe that is the case, can anyone confirm?

*edit: isnt that what RV did? he took 51 as career, then won a title and chose 2 once it became avail.

You are correct about RV. So Blake should be able to change his career #12 if he wants to choose a single digit after winning the Championship.

And DV also changed his career # from 934 to 12 one year.

Yup, you are correct on RV. He was elligble to take a single digit career # from his 250 MX title in his rookie year but chose to stay with 51 for a couple of years before going to 2 after MC retired again.

And Grant Langston did it also, he was 111 as as his career # from 2001-2003 until he won the 125 MX title and then took 8.

Also I think that Dungey took 10 as his career # for 2009 but as soon as he was able after the 2009 250 MX championship he went right to 5.

The longer I think about this the more riders come to mind.

Okay well i think i may have stated it in the wrong form. What i meant to say is,

If a rider has a current Career number can a rider choose to use there NON career number that they earned in points for that year?

How about this: Could Stewart change from 7 to 4 if he wanted to?

I never thought of that. Kind of makes me chuckle.
