[quote="WhKnuckle":18w3mmwe]There are hundreds of "next great thing" guys who were forced out because their bodies weren't equal to their spirit. It's nobody's fault, it's just that motocross is a cruel sport. 40 guys line up at the gate and 39 of 'em lose.[/quote:18w3mmwe]

Yep the "wulda, culda, shulda" list is long and never ending. Sad but true. Pat Jacobson's first race as a Factory Suzuki rider ended in a crash and the chair.... " title="Sad">

Well, watching RV and BT battle last year was a treat. I think BT won ALMOST as many motos as RV did. Would anyone say that RV could beat Bubba on a 450? I would say t hat some would, maybe more than some. RV is fast, but hes like RC fast, twist it and just hold on, maybe not to the extent and he seems to be getting much smoother, much like RC. BT seems to be smooth allready, which is needed to coax a big bike around an MX track at speed. I think BT WILL contend, and WIN motos for sure IF he is healthy. I heard a heel takes a hell of a long time to heal though, bones pretty thick?

Anyone know anything about that type of injury? When he got injured?

I cant see him being an also ran like the rest of the 450 guys (at leas in the outdoors).

It's strange. For some reason, my perception is that Townley would be "safer" and more mature on the big bikes. But, if you look at the facts, it's been Villopoto who has been more durable and consistent. Yeah, luckily his injury (collarbone) came off-season. But, during the past two seasons, RV's been extremely robust. I remember talk back in the early RC days that he wouldn't be able to dominate due to his size; maybe the same perception has been formed about RV. It could be that RV's going to prove those speculative comments wrong, just as RC did.

Either way, I hope BT stays healthy. With him, RV, and Stew in the big bores, it should be very interesting.

alessi and langston? sorry, but they have no chance in hell. they HAD no chance in hell.[/quote:2zuvvsnw]

I seem to remember Alessi finishing higher then James last year in the 450 class final standing. And Langston is the current 2007 MX Champion.

Oh yeah Windham has finished higher in the points as well the last 3 years.[/quote:2zuvvsnw]

Do you remember that JS got hurt during '07 Nationals and his season was done at Washougal? The same knee he hurt again before this SX season and subsequently had to have major knee reconstruction on.

Doubt JS be ready for Glen Helen. But it will be a great outdoor season, in both classes. Prob best in quite sometime.

That's enough facts and common sense out of you. We don't take kindly to that 'round here.

I think this MX season is going to be great...Alessi, GL, Tortownlli, hopefully Bubba.

Seriously, I hope BT is 100% for the nationals. I want to see what he's got on that 450.

If Stew isn't there, I have a feeling it's gonna be a runaway by BT.

there's a difference in not getting hurt and beating a rider and "making a rider suddenly stop racing", it was implied that their speed would force james into retirement, not crashing. It's not them that JS is scared of, it's crashing that he's scared of.

If Stewarts shows up at even 80%, he's still gonna lay waste to the rest of the guys in the Four Five Oh class...IF he keeps it on two wheels that is.

I'm not a Stewart fan but, those are the facts jack. Stewies got almost RC like speed on them outside tracks.

and your saying a 100% townley cant run with stewie? an 80% stewie = the rest of the pack (remember colorado?) id say BT is above the rest except a 100% stewie, and even then, i think he knows he needs to put up some scores or he will be like "the rest"

it makes me sad the condition of our sport =(

I don't think Langston has the consistent speed to influence the outcome.

I think the only times stewart may get challenged ever outdoors:
is by langston at a race or two, most likely southwick
K-dub at washougal or dilla
villopoto at any time
townley on a good day (as of right now IMO, hope he makes it anytime)

Some people are talking as if this is all new to Townley, he's already gone a full season bar to bar with Everts, and on one of those old KTM's (you know, the ones that are so shockingly bad). He also beat Windham and kept the heat on RC at the MXdN. I think because of his smooth style he's better on a 450 than the 250. He's going to shock alot of people this year.

The results not might be immediate, especially since he's coming off an injury....but I think Townley is going to be a serious title contender outdoors. You can't deny that he is already one of the absolute fastest outdoor riders in the world. During their battles last year on 250Fs, both he and Villopoto turned consistently quicker laptimes than all the 450s, even a few times when RC was out there.

Staying injury free is going to be critical for him. But I think he can bring a fight to Stewart, no problem. If there is one thing that Stewart does not deal with well, it's pressure when a championship is on the line.

if he his feet are as messed up as jeff alessi's were he wont be winning no title. i think him and JBS will be in the same boat... capable of racing but not PREPARED to...
