Is PR even allowed to race these old twostrokes?

I can't find the answer, but in AMA I think you can't race a bike older than 3 years. That's why Malcolm S couldn't ride that two stroke too. How is this with the FIM?
So the big question, are Pastrana and Mac allowed to participate on these old two strokes or do they need to take a newer KTM/Husky or Yamaha if they want to race a smoker at the Nations?

GP's have no production rule and I think those rules are also applied in MXON so I think they are allowed

|

I'm pretty sure they aren't allowed. I can't wait for the f**k the FIM threads when they can't ride. It won't be their fault for not reading the rules like everyone else.

Ronnie, I mean Jimmy, rode a TM in a 125 Dream Race a few months ago. They make good two strokes.

Rules are here: 2018 Motocross of Nations Rules. I think MXGP class will allow a maximum of 250cc two stroke, MX2 allows a max of 125cc two stroke. Just not sure about the "open" class. The old MX3 class would allow up to 500cc two strokes but I think this new open class limits displacements to the same as the MXGP and MX2 classes so only a 250cc max. Also all fuels must be unleaded.

Edit: updated link to English language rules which doesn't say a damn thing about the open class displacements.

Can't find the reply but I also read that the bikes have to be 10 years old or newer, which means no CR250. TP199 can still ride a RM250 since those were still made through 2010 in Europe.

It would be cool to see the "old" standards race; 125cc, 250cc and 500cc two strokes. I just don't think the 500 will be allowed.

Is the third US team from "Vitardia" gonna run Alta's? I think the electrics are legal and a US team racing US bikes would be great.blink

|

8/15/2018 6:05 AM

Do you really think they went through all this effort and didn't check the rules?? Those 3 guys know what bikes they can run, Albertson knows what gear he's allowed to wear and whether or not he can sign up using his legal name but have a fictitious name on his jersey and TV screen.

Ama is 5 years. Rulebook is online.

Well.....I think they are all going to be ok. Sipe's and Brown on new Husky's and Travis on an 08' or later RM 250....should follow the FIM rules.

And there goes Jeffro. One of God's own prototypes. A super high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

500 is not a legal bike for MXdN.

Where did you find the 10 year old rule? GP factory bikes usually don't have VIN numbers so it's impossible to determine what year model the bikes are

2.2.MXN FIM Motocross of Nations
-------------------------------------------------------
9. Each FMN can enter one team only. Each team consists of three riders.

10. The motorcycles used by the riders are at the option of the team. However,
each team must field:
- One rider on a MXGP class motorcycle,
- One rider on a MX2 class motorcycle,
- One rider on an “Open” class motorcycle which meets the requirements
of the MXGP or the MX2 class, at the option of the team.

3. MOTORCYCLES, CLASSES AND OTHER SPECIFICATIONS
3.1 Motorcycles and Classes
1. FIM Motocross World Championship and Prize Events events are open to
motorcycles as defined in the FIM Regulations, Appendix 01, FIM Motocross
Technical Regulations:
a) MXGP: motorcycles of Cat. I, Group A1, over 175cc up to 250cc for
2-stroke engines
and over 290cc up to 450cc for 4-stroke engines;
b) MX2: motorcycles of Cat. I, Group A1, over 100cc up to 125cc for 2-stroke
engines and over 175cc up to 250cc for 4-stroke engines.

So no RMzilla 500.

Anything about engine mods for 125/ 250's?

A 500 would do damage in the hands of the right rider. haha

Also 'open class" is defined as a bike from either MXGP or MX2 class. It does not mean open class like it used to.

Maverick:

I'm limited to a 'phone at the moment, and am having a hell of a time trying to find the capacity class rules for the MXDN.

If you can, could you put up a Direct link to the specific PDF / whatever it is, that has the exact capacity / machine eligibility rules?

If , somehow the old MX3 rules applied - but I sure as hell doubt it, with the 250F /450F oriented rules (meaning that the class title of "Open" is just so much bullshit ) of today - there'd be the chance for usage of up to 500cc 2ts, and up to 650cc 4ts.

Heck, I'd love to see a 'Boomer' (the 650cc or thereabouts 4t engine) in a modern frame, just as much as a 500cc 2t.

For a 2t - Just think - one of those BRC KTM500 Kits (though it would have to have a tad smaller piston, as they are 510cc) in a modern chassis, under say Sipes, would be quite the 'thing' to behold.

Not withstanding all of this - anyone that has read my posts over the years, regarding the Puerto Rican team being a potential US 'B' team, will know my view on it. And it's not in favour of it.

Other countries Riders (and their backers) stopped doing this years ago, and it should be stopped completely. There's a Lot of other countries (with 'Territories and Dependencies) that Riders and their backers could do this, yet, thankfully, they don't. Of course, now with the whole doing it for charity angle, it can bring howls of ''you bastard, you don't care about PR's suffering''. It will be interesting to see what aid funds do come of this.

PS:

**** Well, whilst I was Bear Pawing at a miniature keyboard, Queen of Spodes put something up. So, the 'Open Class' name, really is just Bullshit, and it's still all set up for the 250F/ 450F Handicap Class Rules...............

8/15/2018 10:38 AM

Yes since they went away from the MX3 class they might as well just have a MXGP 1 and 2 class cause it's all 450's.

MXGP 1
MX2
MXGP 2

That's really what it is. I suppose Open just makes it look less confusing when looking at the results chart.

So you can run a fully pumped up 250F bored to a 300 even. Interesting. Not that anyone would, but there's an opportunity for development there
