Is Loretta Lynn's Dude Ranch a fun place to ride?

The videos make it look fun, anyone ridden there?

Do they ever have open practice? I'm from MN, probably never make it there, but fun to dream.

I'll NEVER earn my way there, so I was wondering if they ever open it up "just for fun"...

Only way you're riding there is if you earn it. I don't think they even have GNCC there anymore..

the only time its open is for the week of Lorettas, the rest of the year its a pasture and covered in grass and doesnt even looks like a moto track as the jumps get beaten down. The track only really transforms into a track the week before the race.

"is it fun"
Well its not as fun as it looks, unless maybe you're on a super mini. Full size bikes are kinda useless there, go check the fastest lap times of the week, usually a supermini ends up in the top 10 fastest. Some people will probably argue with me because they had a fun time there but the track itself isn't really "fun". Its dead flat, 95% of the jumps are doable in 1st gear on a 450, its pretty tight and gets exceptionally rough so the speeds are slow and there are a few features that just get giant craters in them because they build the track the week before and have 200 motos on it over the week. Most of the track lacks flow and it is set up a little awkwardly, like the few straight aways that you get going fast lead to super tight corners. Sometimes you'll get lucky and catch a moto right after intermission or about 5th moto in the morning if it doesnt rain is fun. But the atmosphere is awesome, the mayhem of run away golfcarts and pitbikes and kids on bicycles, watching some intense battles from 50s to 450s is cool, and you have to realize they build a track that the 50cc class can get around and the 50+ class.

On a big bike it's a pain in the ass. The track in general is pretty tight, add in the ruts and you rarely are able to open the bike up. Also there's so much traffic the jumps can change massively between your motos. The 10 commandments are just bumps in practice, but mid-week they are bike deep and scary to time.

To actually answer your question the only time it was really fun for me is when I did well. Other than it's either very simple in practice or very difficult in the motos with the super deep ruts.

I enjoyed the race, but not the track if that makes sense.

One of the tricky characteristics of the track is how there's no big lips on the faces of anything. You really gotta rail your corners to get the drive on certain sections. From after the 10 commandemnts all the way into the roadway checker flag section it's allot of slapping the front wheel on the next obstacle.

Made it one time in C class 10 years ago. The track was okay, but It wasn't anything that that great. Coming into the first corner at LL is a nerve wracking experience though! lol

Not fun. Raced it in 2010. Probably okay if you're on a mini bike, because that's what the layout favors.

It's the best week of Am racing you can attend.
It's impossible to train for, unless you live in the hi temp/humidity.
The track is hard to get some flow going, unless you ride there multiple years, and then it's still tough.
You won't find better racing, and more difficult conditions..

I am under the impression that other then the AM national, doesn't a atv national run the similar track then it is horse pasture the rest of the year.
