This race gets hyped up like crazy. Nobody ever talks about the all-time leader for wins in Houston or Indy. But we had 3 hours of talking about Tomac's 5 wins.

I've never been to Daytona, so maybe BEING there is awesome.

But watching the event on TV, I always think of it as the low point in the SX season. The camera coverage isn't as good. (But they do get the cool camera cart on the long straight away.) The race seems darker. All the Monster decorations and fireworks at the finish line aren't there. The track is less interesting, etc.

"All the Monster decorations and fireworks at the finish line aren't there."

That's because the race is put on by the Daytona Group and not Feld Entertainment.

Yeah, I understand why. But that doesn't mean it's good. It's one more thing that makes the race bizarre. 16 rounds that are promoted by one group, and then 1 round promoted by a different group.

I think since they stopped running during the day and made the track more like a typical supercross it has lost it's uniqueness but it's still the granddaddy.

Personally, I thought Atlanta Speedway last year was the best track in a LONG time.

Daytona is historic and legendary....but I kinda feel it doesn't live up to the hype anymore. I'm not knocking it by any means.

Overrated based on what, your jaded opinion? Track less interesting? NO Way it is. Monster decorations missing? All the better...IMO Supercross racing is gnarly no matter the venue. Daytona Speedway is a legendary venue for any motorsport. Tomac's record breaking 6th win on Sat was the most exciting thing I've seen in a while, So NO Daytona is not overrated in my mind...

This one looked much more like a 'normal' sx race this year. Used to be pretty much only Honda everywhere.

Yes, my opinion. So I wanted to see what opinions other people had.

I like it. It breaks the mid season staleness and usually the points see a shakeup. The only thing I don’t like is that it’s east coast only. I’d like a Daytona shootout cause, but I know it doesn’t really make sense for the west coast teams.

The fact that there aren’t monster logos stuck on every square inch of everything makes me love this race even more.

The atmosphere is awesome and the facilities are fantastic, but the tracks don't produce great racing imo and it's much harder to see the whole track than it is in a normal stadium. I still enjoy going, and it's nice to have something different on the schedule.

I used to think it was a mixture of a bad Supercross and a bad Outdoor national.

Then I saw one live and then I started working trackside. My opinion changed 100% it is a great race in a historic facility. Something just hits different at that place.

I'm super jaded and have been inside the track countless times and have walked to the top of the banking more than once. As I was leaving yesterday, I still stopped to take a picture of the banking. It is impressive every time you see it.

Let them race during the day when it's hot and keep it 20 laps instead of 20 minutes for Daytona.

The last 5 450 races at Daytona have been pretty epic

Ya to every racer not named Eli Tomac.Yes I'm a huge Eli fan, but it breaks the monatomy of the stadium races, I'm also looking forward to the Atlanta race. I also like the Triple Crown races and East vs West shootout races.

The sound. The lighting. The dirt(s). The way the riders ride the living crap out of the machines on an extremely rough track is just simply indescribable. I've been there several times and it never disappoints.

Even when it’s bad it’s great from the POV you get to see the guys ride some one of a kind, gnarly shit.

Best race of the year so far. The 3 Atlanta's were the best races last year. Modern 450 has outgrown your typical baseball/football stadium. Speedways are the way forward.

I always laugh at these threads. Who’s rating Daytona and what’s it rated at?

Daytona's still special (always will be), but...

Add more time(again)...something close to the old days. When I went in 2001, Carmichael was turning 1:33's late in the race. 20 laps @ 1:25~1:33 would be 30 minutes. Doubt Tomac's bike would have made it that long! Smile

The other thing that was cool was the "vibe" of bike week and seeing the variety of racing in 3 successive days. Went to Dirt Track Friday night, SX during day on Sat., and the Daytona 200 on Sunday.

FELD has been involved for a couple years now, not sure if Monster will be part of the future.

Daytona reminds me of what Monaco is to F1. It’s full of history, a different type of race, as stadiums and other cities change Daytona stays the same and will always be unique. Might not have some of the best racing but always brings something a little different then the rest of the rounds no matter how much the sport grows

What race are you watching? Some of the best races of the series have been at the Daytona race even if it isn't always close: ET3 wheelie through the rollers (and winning 6x), JS7 jumping the wall then endoing and jumping it again, Ricky Ryan, Justin Brayton, .... Pyrotecknics and banners do not define a race.
