Is # 800 doing better on the 450?

9/5/2011 8:01pm Edited Date/Time 1/21/2012 7:40am
I love the Alessi's but I thought being on the 450 he would be faster. Seems to be about the same place 350 or 450. Thoughts?

Alessi just finished 6th overall last weekend and is currently 5th in points in the 450 class. That's way better than he was doing on the 350 in SX.

I wonder if he is still trying to regain his confidence and form after slamming his head very hard twice in the span 3 weeks. He has been off a bit all summer long.

Hasn't made a whole lot of progress the way I thought he would have. Seems to me he's lost a little of that drive that he use to have.

I think Mike is doing alot better on the 450. The results arent "that" much better but you have to factor in Poto, and Reed racing this year where they weent last year. Remove those 2 guys and Alessi is sitting 3rd in points and perhaps 2nd if things shook out a bit differently. I do think he lost that " desire" once he missed the 1st two rounds. He probably doesnt hang it out nearly like he would if had any chance at the title.

He had a moto win and some podium moto finishes on the 350 last year. I thought he finished top 5 points last year also . Of course this year he was out a few races.

After reviewing 2010 results Mike's qualifying times were closer margin with pole time and margin of behind winner was smaller. Larger gaps in 2011 between qualifying time and margin behind winner.

So out of date, it's won the majority of Shootouts the past couple years. Man that thing sucks.

LOL, you can bet his 450 has just as much or more power than most bikes on the track & has great handling.

KTM has the best 450 right now.

I don't know how to reconcile these two facts.

I think the two head injuries Mike suffered at the beginning of the season are affecting him more than we realize.

Head injuries are no joke especially second-impact syndrome. Just one can have life changing results and most of these guys have had multiple.

With all the attention the issue is receiving in the context of the NFL I think it would be reasonable to assume the problems are just as prevalent in our sport and they will soon be illuminated.

His mini-dad has impacted his head far more than the ground has.

What is wrong with you? It is well known that Alessi is riding a bike with parts from a 2010 European race bike. Also maybe you have heard of something called EFI? Also it has been stated that part of Dungey signing with KTM is that they have to bring their 450 up to date.

Great, exactly which shootout would that be? Love to read it.

If that 350f was that good there would be more of them than just one. Alessi looks much better on the 450 this year but he does seem like he's slightly down on his corner speed this year and maybe those early season crashes played a part in it. I expect him to only improve to where he was a couple of years ago before his failed experiment on the 350. If Mike can get back his confidence and corner speed he'll be back in the top 3.

Alessi seems like once the championship is out of reach he seems to lose all mental focus, just an observation. He was flying at Hangtown in practice.

I think MA is awesome, so I'm going with the head injury excuse. Hopefully it isn't the real reason he's slightly off. 800 should be running Metty's pace or better. Get 'em Mike.

I'm not sure it's wise to compare MA800's SX results with what he's doing outdoors. SX has never been his thing. In fact, I believe he would be a perfect candidate for an outdoor only contract.

Sorry I forgot how much money KTM has right now to buy results.

That's exactly what Reed was thinking on that step-on step-off in sx on his Yammie.

What do you think happens when a fuel pump craps out? Besides removing $300 from your wallet.

Same thing as what happened to Reed - or worse, or better. They both suck. Why? Because the motor has too many strokes. The only way to fix it is to run a two-stroke with a carb.

Man, I don't wanna be in the taliban!

i for one would love to see js7 on a yz250 indoors. he grew up on a two smoke. thats why the new breed is so fast rv and rd are the beginning of the wave of four stroke only kids. js reed and rc? they built theyre whole styles on two strokes no wonder guys like rv are more naturally suited to too many strokes!

Keep on drinking the kool-aid. I'm sure you'll be the first in line when the MSRP for a new bike hits $10k.
