Why? You race to the checkered flag. You get that, the race is complete. And like mentioned above, the track workers were waving them off.

That brought back bad memories of pulling off on a white flag at Whitney, in the lead, thinking it was a checkered. My Dad rarely got hot at my races but he chewed my ass out for that one. I was taught if there's any question take another lap.

Essentially, you might get 2 white flags, or none at all, and it has no impact on the race results. A checkered flag is final, and directly impacts race results.

If I'm Colt Nichols I'd be thinking that this year looks like my buddy Justin Bogle's '14 and that's good but I'll rack up as many bonuses as I can before moving up to the big boys.

White flags are courtesy flags. If they show you ten white flags, keep going until you see the checker. After taking the checker, you decide to take another lap you might "earn" a penalty. If they wave you off the track, go.

I guess I might not have the confidence in the AMA making a good decision. If Colt pulled off and everyone else continued on, the AMA might decide to make a poor decision. Of course, the team would contest it and will have some seriously good grounds to win.. but who needs that hassle when you can just ride another lap? Call it a parade lap afterwards if you're worried about being penalised for it.. a fast parade lap, with a few waves to the crowd.
