Started out last night with a call. A huge loop that was going to have a gas stop. By this morning that had all blown away and it was a ride up to some of the high country. After a oil change, tank change and filter change last night I was ready to go at 8am. Had breakfast and met my friends at the meeting spot at 10. Headded up Coyote pass on a great narrow two track. Sand and whooped out for the first couple miles all is good when you are confident you have enough gas to get home. Full throttle in the sand where you feel like a hero blasting every turn. The pipe is barking at you as you pin the trottle to where it stops. As we started up the switchbacks we then came to the rocky part. The trail is laden with bowling ball size lava rocks. Erosion and years of travel have turned these into solid tire tearing obstacles laden with little marbles scattered across the trail. Do you go fast and skate across it or do you go slow? You try one then the other. Soon you find its a mixture.

About half way up Im feeling cocky and I come break sliding around a turn and WHAT? I notice a toyota emblem as my focal point. I lay the bike down and slide off the sluff over the side of the hill. I try to save it but im in too deep and over I go. I get up the FJ driver staring at me funny, my heart pounding as I was not expecting him, we said our hello and I went my way he went his.

I shook the near impact off and headed up the hill further and further. We made it to around 12000 feet where my friends and I bs's and remembered back to other great trail rides. This was about the moment we noticed our third had a flat. So, 30 miles back he went on a flat, myself and my cohort rode up higher, watch the deer graze and took photos of the lakes in the basin.

We all met back up at the meeting spot then headed over to the local Mexican place for tacos, beer and more bench racing.

I love days like today.

Thanks for the ride report and especially the pictures. I needed that. I'll be back down there at the end of Nov.

That is so cool. I am shopping for a SA so I can get some trail riding in before the snow. I hope to go to rampart next Monday . The next month and a half is the best time to be in the mountains .
