Looking at the 300xc.. this is what they want for a 2016. I understand rebuilds are cheaper on a 2T but I'll never ride a 450 hard enough to blow it up so that's not really a concern.

Trying to sip the koolaid here but damn!

A "little" more? Its $900 more, I dont call that a little.
Right, but it's still 9 grand

Its a 300, they sell out of them every year early, they could probably charge $900 more than the 450 and they would still sell out. A 2016 YZ250 MSRP is $7300, being conservative at adding $700 to make it an off road race bike and its still $1900 less than the 450.

I heard there is a 4 month old 2015 YZ250 for only 3K.

Pretty sure I got my 97 YZ400F for a little over 6k out the door and it was one of the first ones. Seems the prices on everything have gone through the roof.

Lots of vet guys do this and add on trick parts. Then sell them for nothing lol.

Bikes hinting up on 10 grand makes me sad. I can't keep up with inflation.

That 300 KTM is probably one of the best offroad bikes ever made. It's why they sell out basically every where. Maybe not for moto riders , but for offroad guys , that bike is a dream bike. I mean hell , the new 16' KTM450FE is like 11 freakin' grand!

Personally if I wanted something like a 450 right now , I'd go pick up a 15' KX450F for $6700.00. But that would be for moto. If I was doing offroad , I'd be picking up one of those KTM 300's.

Agreed on the 300, and it is worth noting that their resale is easily the best out of any off-road motorcycle out there. A friend of mine recently got $4500 out of his 2008 300XC, which to me is completely insane. Its just a cylinder (when comparing to a 250XC for example).

As far as pricing, there are still dealers out there that focus way more on volume than others who just want to hit MSRP. The "crating a KTM" thread touched on that.

I also agree on the buying-used-idea. Obviously better if you live in a heavily-populated area, but I see very clean KTMs a year or two old at really good prices. Many look bone-stock and brand new. And if you're REALLY obsessive compulsive, pull the cylinder, do a top-end right away and while you're at it, make sure to pull the power valves apart and de-carbon & polish everything. It'll be crisp and bark like new (I try to do that to my 250XC a couple times a season - it really is the key to maintaining the like-new bark - I can't stand it when 2-strokes sound old and ratty).

haha exactly.

I can confidently say I put more wear on a bike in 1 day sand trail riding than most vets I know would in 20 hrs social riding.
